Thanks very much for the thread!
Thanks, VL!
I was going to suggest making an ongoing thread title easy to remember & easy to search for (my “Favorites” folder is already 2 miles long, even with a recent culling & reorganization), but your title here works fine...

Sea Change?
From disinterested numbers reporting to sanitary precaution articles carried by local media? Lions, tigers and WinniethePoohbears. Something’s in the air in California.
Based on the current available data, I would primarily rely on the data from SARS coronavirus, which is the closest relative to the novel coronavirus with 80% sequence similarity among the coronaviruses tested. For SARS coronavirus, the range of persistence on surfaces was less than five minutes to nine days, said Dr. Charles Chiu, an infectious disease professor at the University of California, San Francisco, and director of the USCF-Abbott Viral Diagnostics and Discovery Center, who was not involved in the new study.
However, it is very difficult to extrapolate these findings,,,According to the CDC, the flu virus can live on some surfaces for as long as 48 hours....

2 patients in their 80’s from the Diamond Princess have died.
Just came here to post that. Also 28 are seriously ill.
Some good news Coronavirus Patient Makes Full Recovery, Discharged from Hospital

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention determined the patient had fully recovered from the virus and was no longer infectious, UC San Diego Health said.
The patient was discharged and was not placed in subsequent quarantine or isolation, according to UC San Diego Health.
Thanks blueplum. I keep that link on my bookmarks bar.
You are right to be careful.
The list says this about the Military Times links in my post:
“They will only allow the posting of titles and links.”
You can report abuse on my post to the Admin Mod to remove this post for containing links to the Military Times, if links (without title even) are no longer allowed:
https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/3817900/posts?page=10#10
But unless I’m missing something, those links are OK.
And the .mil sites are public, taxpayer funded.

I can’t imagine how their families are feeling.
This is starting to get going in Asia. Iran isn’t messing around. Qom is locked down. India seems to be taking measures too.
I keep thinking of the air travel map with all the red lines across the world.
I am crying now, these are somebody’s parents, somebody’s brother/sister, mother in law, etc. We cherish the people we still have left in our 80s in my family, and somebody has been calling every day for the last 2 weeks to make sure their loved ones are ok - only to find out just now that they are NOT ok - that the inept pathetic Japanese quarantine has killed their cherished love ones. I feel so sad.
This guy has a lot of video... it is ramping up like crazy there...

And the 2 that died had not traveled outside Iran
Lil - I found our Omaha 13 in this article. Looks like the Travis flight 7 - were flown to Lackland, joined the 6 and all went on to Omaha and that’s how Omaha got 13.
meanwhile, Diamond Princess Passengers Leave Ship In Japan (as Japan announces 79 new cases onboard) and the first rescue flight quarantines at Miramar and Travis graduate into freedom.
It is heartbreaking, and should never have happened.
