This will be the forever thread.
The virus must love that California weather!
Imagine your local factory—for example in my neck of the woods there is a huge mail processing facility and Pratt and Whitney—what if they shut down for two weeks.
Even if there are only a few cases.
Those people are not driving to work. They are not buying their dunkin’s in the morning. They are not going to the movies. They are not going to the Celtics games. They are not going out to dinner. They are not going to club meetings. They might be buying stuff on Amazon—but will the local mail facility send them?
Each of those places I referred to employee between 5 thousand and 10 thousand workers. And you cannot build aircraft engines and space suits from home. And you cannot sort mail from home.
For those naysayers out there...this is not the flu. And the concern is not about living or dying—it is highly unlikely not to kill you. Its about shutting stuff down. Keeping you home. And putting everyone out of work for a while.
“No noticeable impact on U.S. economy”. There you have it direct from the experts!

Oh, ok. I will just keep buying stocks. Lol..
ok, but bear in mind my furry FRiend, that this is Feb 20. On Jan 20, we had no clue what was going on for the most part other than the CCP was playing hide and seek like the big fat liars they have always been.
The virus genome was identified Jan 13 and the full sequencing by France’s Pasteur Institute only completed Jan 29, the same day the first rescue flight touched down at March ARB. (after twiddling around for a week with CCP napoleons) We went into two steps of flight restrictions trying to leave the door open for Americans outside of Wuhan to get home, and then full restrictions (no Chinese nationals) by Feb 2 - which was three days after our patients landed and with just the weekend for airlines and airports to comply by Feb 5. Feb 5th being the 12th day of Wuhan lockdown. While we were also locking down our ports.
I’m not sure you can really say it’s money driven since there was no business over the Chinese holiday. But, I will concede, we’ve given our friends the Japanese a whole lot of rope and they got all twisted up. So we need to put the kabosh on any flights out of there until they stabilize. Because 10K self-quarantines are quite enough, thanks.

Virus fallout: World Bank ‘pandemic bonds’ plummet in value
https://www.aljazeera.com/ajimpact/virus-fallout-world-bank-pandemic-bonds-plummet-200219184800262.html
“The bank issued the bonds in 2017 to help the poorest countries deal with health emergencies like the coronavirus.
“The World Bank launched bond and insurance instruments in 2017 following the 2013 to 2016 Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, which killed at least 11,300 people. Launched under the bank’s Pandemic Emergency Financing umbrella in 2017, these instruments were designed to be speedily employed where needed.
“The bonds, issued by the World Bank’s International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), offer investors high coupons in return for the risk of having to forgo some or all their money in the event of pandemic outbreaks of a number of infectious diseases.”

I’m confused (easily done). I thought there was a ban on people coming back from China and most airlines were no longer having flights in/out of China. How do the numbers keep going up in various states of people returning from China?
I wish I could convince some loved ones about the economic impact. They refuse to see it.
They take connecting flights from countries that do allow flights from China

$40K???? That’s not going to last long.
Oh course, thank you.
Won’t the FBI be in for a shock when they are told “We can get you two boxes of 20 facemasks. $600. In July.”
A friend has relatives in China. He ordered 20 masks off of ebay two weeks ago. $30 for the masks. $350 for “shipping and handling” to his home in the USA.
Here we go. They are getting us used to this idea, slowly but surely. Like the self-quarantine numbers that keep getting put in articles but dont quite make prime time news...
Hospitals across the US prepare for coronavirus outbreak to become global pandemic

A larger spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus across the U.S. could overwhelm emergency rooms and cause supply shortages of some crucial medical supplies.
The threat of the new virus comes at an already busy time for most U.S. hospitals: Seasonal flu is at its peak.
This is the time to open up your pandemic plans and see that things are in order, Dr. Anne Schuchat, a top official of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, urged hospitals last week as an outbreak of a deadly new coronavirus ravaged much of China.
For instance, she continued, health-care providers need to plan for a surge at a hospital, the ability to provide personal protective equipment for your workforce, the administrative controls and so forth that you might put place in a health care setting.
Schuchats warning came as U.S. and world health officials increasingly sound the alarm of a possible pandemic outbreak of the deadly new coronavirus that has killed more than 2....
...At some point, we are likely to see community spread in the U.S. or in other countries, she warned
You can be placed on an artificial heart when it fails but if your lungs stop working there is no Plan B for getting air into your body where it's needed.
