at mortality of 2.3%, if all 14.5 billon chinese get case, death toll would be 330 million

Are mild cases, reportedly the majority of them, actually sent to the hospital? That seems like a very bad idea given that they would need the advanced facilities there to protect the other hospital patients and workers from getting an infection from them, when such facilities are surely in short supply.

Per my previous post about triage pods being set up in the UK. Here is what some of them look like. They are going up at hospitals nationwide.:

I thought I used to get chat threads listed together with news threads but now I don’t. I have to leave FR and do a google FR chat search now to find any chat threads.

I’ve gone through everything in my account and preferences, etc. and can’t find anything about subscribing to the chat forum.

Can anyone help, please?

Singapore appears to get control over outbreak with well executed public health measures. Japan and Korea may be losing control of their outbreaks. It’s unlikely virus will burn out on its own. It’ll require major public health interventions to halt spread https://straitstimes.com/asia/south-asia/as-cases-mount-japan-is-rapidly-becoming-a-coronavirus-hotbed

Well, hmm. Now it’s working. Don’t know that I did anything but all is good.

The past however many days, I’d have to go back to the previous thread to find the new daily thread because it wouldn’t show up in the regular listings of general threads. I’d check the time the new threat was created but it wouldn’t show up when I scrolled through threads posted around that time.

Oh, well. Whatever. It’s now listed there when it wasn’t before.

I sure thought that anyone that tested positive were going to the hospital. Maybe I misunderstood or there was some inaccurate reporting going on. Looks like we go an update:

can you imagine the death toll right now in Asia and America if the USA hadn’t taken the first bold step in containment and rang the bell?

I read somewhere, that the US flu mortality fell from the average expected every year 6.8 to 0.1 - very mild season; what anecdotal story would that tell?

South Korea reports first virus death as Daegu struggles to contain outbreak

By KIM GAMEL AND YOO KYONG CHANG | STARS AND STRIPESPublished: February 20, 2020

SEOUL, South Korea — South Korea reported its first coronavirus-linked death Thursday, while the U.S. military tightened restrictions on travel to the southeastern city of Daegu due to an outbreak in infections in the area.

Daegu also urged residents to stay home as the city of 2.5 million people and surrounding areas struggled to contain an outbreak of the pneumonia-like disease.

The Army garrison in Daegu also restricted access and announced that schools and nonessential business would be closed for a second day on Friday.

In an exception to policy, U.S. service members were authorized to wear face masks in uniform “regardless of air quality conditions,” according to the garrison’s Facebook page.

In the rest of the world, they aren’t necessarily. Only if needed. There was an interview online this past week with the husband of a hospital worker outside Buffalo. They reported several patients with positive tests being sent home before they even had the results, but then with no effort to reel them back in.

I feel for the Brits. It would have been difficult for the US to help, we’re flying in the wrong direction; and we would have if they’d asked. But couldn’t France or Germany give them a lift? They’re the last men off the ship practically. Talk about stressed.

The death toll is just ramping up now that it is person to person sustained spread in many countries in Asia - Japan, S. Korea, Singapore, Iran. The US needs to implement stronger travel restrictions and be proactive and not reactive.

They just issued travel warnings to Hong Kong, which should have been done a week or two ago. The UK has a long list of Asian countries that if people fly in, they are quarantined

We know what Japan is capable of from their dreadful handling of Fukushima. The Yakuza were handling waste disposal. Kiss Atlantis goodbye.

UK travel advisory:

The new advice for travellers, posted on the Government website, says: “Based on the scientific advice of Sage (Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies), the UK chief medical officers are advising anyone who has travelled to the UK from mainland China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia or Macau in the last 14 days, and is experiencing cough or fever or shortness of breath, to stay indoors and call NHS 111, even if symptoms are mild.

Actually, you need to imagine the coming death toll from China not properly warning the world and the US deciding that the money would do the talking cause the virus is still walking all over America.
