That's what I find disturbing.
If she was being abused AND, it wasn't her family or family friends, who did the Spielbergs trust their child with? Why didn't they notice anything in her behavior? I can understand a young child being scared and remaining silent but parents should notice changes.
I never understand how parents can be so distant for their children they don't suspect something.

of course they are not. No one is responsible for her mental illness. She is a mess and often adopted children become their birthparents, for better or for worse.
