It’s been reported they removed the word Boy from their name so it’s no longer the BSA. The BSA was organized as a series of local councils.

Is it legally possible for a group of those councils to meet sue then reorganize and restore that organization to its original purpose ?

It's still the BSA = Boy Scouts of America. Its youth program for 11-17 yoa males and females is now called Scouts-BSA.

Interesting concept. Not likely to happen. BSA is actually ruled by a volunteer collection of business men called the National Executive Committee - virtually all Fortune 500 execs. The current volunteer National Chairman, Jim Turley, used to be the CEO of Ernst & Young. He was part of the pro-homosexual cabal back in 2013 which opened the doors fully to destroy the BSA. They are already battening down BSA's National HQ in Irving, TX. Many professionals are taking early retirement and their jobs are being consolidated. SOP.

The current bankruptcy filing will be full of twists and turns. Current thinking is that it will swallow-up Philmont Scout Ranch and the Summit Bechtel Preserve in W"by-God"VA. It would not be surprising if the consortium of lawyers, aka "Abused in Scouting", eventually target the local councils' real estate financial assets to help pay for damages.
