Once you see the face staring straight at the camera...you do wonder what failed..and if he might have snapped his neck.
That said, it may not be his face. Certainly lots of different opinions about what is in that red circle.
It would be interesting to know the design specs for the helmet anchors. If anything failed, my bet is on one or more of those.
I’m pretty sure what you are seeing is part of the seat. Do a search on images of NASCAR seats.
