I hate to say it but I think they would have used a helicopter to transport him instead of an ambulance if he had survived.

I agree with you...however..there is this tweet from someone:
“Driver side impact of Ryan Newman’s car. Car not being covered up is a great sign. Damge would explain why it might’ve taken so long to get Ryan out. Safety crew might’ve had to cut large enough window for escape. Car was also upside too. Crew members said he’s awake.#DAYTONA500”

I’m beginning to think that it’s NOT Talladega that’s HAUNTED...

I'd tend to think the opposite - to me, an ambulance would indicate that it wasn't as bad as it looked, whereas a helicopter would indicate it was life-and-death.

The hospital is like a thousand feet outside the track gate. A helicopter isn’t going to get him there any quicker. I was parked closeby the hospital when Dale was taken there.

Hospital is just down the street. It takes longer to spin up the chopper, get loaded up and airborne and go a few blocks to land, unstrap and get inside etc. Ambulance is faster with a Police Traffic Control.

"I hate to say it but I think they would have used a helicopter to transport him instead of an ambulance if he had survived."No. You could shoot a (big) bottle rocket from the track to the hospital. Not even 1/2 a mile away down Speedway.
