There is a story from long ago of a Chicago born and raised politician who had never traveled outside the city, who became politically ambitious enough to want to run for governor of Illinois.

But this required him to actually travel around the state to make campaign stops. Being driven by his campaign manager, he was impressed by fully grown corn fields, so asked him, what is that?

“That’s corn, sir, almost ready to harvest, so we have to campaign here now because soon the farmers will be very busy.”

“You mean that stuff that comes in cans?”, he replied.

This reminds me of the difference between US and Russian spacemen. The US has long had the attitude of “replace, not repair”, so much of what they use is modular. The Russians had the opposite policy, so became known among the Americans as being able to fix just about any problem they encountered.

The US space station Skylab operated for under a year. The Soviet space station Mir operated for a decade.

Eventually the two decided to sponsor the International Space Station, which had an American module and a Russian module. In either case, if either module had an emergency, its occupants could safely evacuate to the other module.

He wasn’t running for office when he said it. Which probably means that it’s what he really thinks.

What many folks are missing is the language MiniMike used:

“health care will bankrupt ^US^...”
“...so ^WE^ can give them a car, a cellphone...”

The language of The Collective!
