That is ridiculous. 15 credits a semester is how many hours? A part time job of 20 hrs a week is nothing. My kids best gpa were when they had on campus jobs. You are more focused and not at the bars. I worked 20 hrs week all thru college, good gpa with a business degree. Got a great job.

A semester at a public university in VA is $5-$7K, AGAIN THAT IS PER SEMESTER. 20 hours of work per week will only net maybe $150/wk or $600/mo. A semester is around 4 months to you earn maybe 1/3 of the money you need to pay as you go. It is not possible. It is better to borrow and study your ass off especially if you major in STEM. I get it even though I graduated many decades ago. It is all sham a crock now. I feel bad for these kids.

5 to 7k a semester!!! Wow. Mine went to private colleges 50k plus a year each. Damn right they worked part time and summers. Ever hear of work/study. The college gets you a job.

The world is not all STEM. Plenty of degrees between stem and basket weaving.

A co-worker is lamenting that her daughter dropped out of college because she is making too much working as a waitress at a three-star restaurant in their quaint little toney town.

She routinely makes over $500 in tips on each of Friday and Saturday nights and another $200 during the non-peak hours leading up to dinner.

She got a couple other waitressing gigs at other places M-Th after quitting school and makes about a thousand a week in tips from those.

She’s looking to buy a townhouse, marry her boyfriend, who is in college full-time, and then scale back on waitressing and get some sort of applied science associate’s degree when he graduates and gets a job.

The co-worker thinks this is crazy. I tell her I would be proud of such of a kid.
