All-Female Crew To Broadcast, Produce NHL Game On International Women’s Day, A First
Deadline ^ | February 16, 2020 | Bruce Haring

Posted on 02/16/2020 3:57:08 PM PST by EdnaMode

International Women’s Day arrives on March 8, and NBC Sports Network will celebrate by using an all-female crew to broadcast and produce game coverage of the St. Louis Blues vs. Chicago Blackhawks National Hockey League matchup.

The game will mark the first NHL contest broadcast and produced solely by women in the US.

Kate Scott (play-by-play) will call the action alongside US Olympic gold medalists Kendall Coyne-Schofield (Inside-the-Glass analyst) and AJ Mleczko (analyst) from United Center in Chicago, Ill.

Kathryn Tappen will anchor studio coverage with three-time Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jen Botterill. Game production will be led by producer Rene Hatlelid and director Lisa Seltzer.

International Women’s Day dates back over 100 years. Throughout the broadcast there will be nods to those who have made their mark on women’s hockey and sports in general, with the goal of inspiring future generations of women to excel on the ice and behind the scenes.

In addition to the game elements, NBC Sports’ female-empowerment brand On Her Turf will surround coverage with content featuring women in hockey in various ways, including the Hockey is for Her digital video franchise and behind-the-scenes content through @OnHerTurf on Instagram.

“I’ve been broadcasting for 17 years, and yet, the very first broadcast I did with a female producer was just two years ago,” said host Kathryn Tappen. “The fact that we are celebrating International Women’s Day with an all-female broadcast and production team tells me how far we have come in a very short time. We hope our broadcast will help inspire young women watching to follow their dreams, because we’ve proven that anything is possible, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Producer Rene Hatlelid added, “These strong, accomplished women do this work day in and day out, and I’m honored to be a part of this historic broadcast.”

Producer Kaitlin Urka initially pitched the idea.“We aren’t just bringing women together for the sake of bringing women together,” Urka said. “These are professionals who are some of the best at what they do and do these jobs on a regular basis. International Women’s Day just gives us a unique platform to celebrate their great work.”

Studio coverage will start at 7 p.m. ET on NHL Live and will continue immediately following the game with NHL Overtime.

The NHL is stupidly woke. Its all about tokenism (the current idiocy with Willie O’Ree). Women in hockey are vastly inferior to the men. It really shows when they do analysis. Count me out for this.

In my opinion, when a “Day” is proclaimed, like this, for anything, it’s like the government saying “We care about you today...The rest of the time, we don’t give a crap...”
= = = = = = = = = =

You and I appear to have the same ‘morbid’ understanding of what ‘they’ really mean.

For years I have been ‘against’ the public feeding etc at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Wouldn’t they REALLY be helping if they helped EVERY DAY and NOT on T&C?

Instead of the unemployment rate being 5 percent, shouldn’t we say our EMPLOYMENT rate is 95 percent?

Notice how we seemingly fall for the old gas at 2.199 per gal....we STILL say gas at 2.19 today instead of 2.20?

I figure a person could get dirty rich by clipping 1/2 ounce out of every bottle or can. Who measures this stuff?

etc etc

Oh yes, my ‘President for life’ is the first guy that invites T. Turkey to the White Hut on Nov20 and tells Mr TT that HE is the STAR of the meal on Thanksgiving then invites him to rest his neck on the chopping block.

They won’t ruin it if they’re all real women. It could be fun,

But if they’re trannies, forget it. They’re ruining women’s sports, men’s sports, and probably even elementary school sports.

Michael Ontkean was so cool on Twin Peaks. The revival suffered for his absence.

so agree with you...hockey ruined their own sport. All these “defensive systems” have turned it into a nameless, faceless bore-fest. Check the scores on any given night...almost every game is 2-1 or 3-2. you dont see this anymore...artistry and skill...https://youtu.be/isCV73zAvoQ

For what it’s worth, I read years ago that the NHL has a higher percentage of female fans than Baseball, football etc.

Boy, no kidding. I have heard some of the rule changes have improved it, but boy, it got frustrating to watch. Thanks for that link...

So what. International women’s day is sexist and should be eliminated.

they have tried so many rules changes to try and get scoring back up....didnt help. As long as the teams are coached to play defensively, its not gonna change anything. Not to mention the ridiculous padding the goalies wear now...lol..just get some 6’5” guy..put giant pads on him, and he doesn’t even have to “play” the position...just stand there and let the shots hit him. Almost all scoring is on power plays now...heck, even the great Canadian announcers are gone.

LOL, I look at the equipment I started out with as a goalie, and it was so...bad...but I didn’t have any choice. I bought the equipment myself, and just didn’t have the money, so I got these nasty shoulder and arm pads that could have been made from quilted shipping blankets, there were no hard pads anywhere in it.

And the goalie pads were old, condensed, and leather. Even though I put stuff on to try to repel the water, by the end of some games, it was like having a menopausic woman on each leg after she ate a bag of salty potato chips and drank a couple of gallons of water!

Once I started earning money, I got some decent equipment, and then I felt pretty brave after that. Real goalie headgear, real goalie skates. Heh, it was sick what I was wearing before. Some guys really teed off on me.
