On the 50th anniversary of a legendary gig by The Who, people who were there have been recalling how the band "threw everything into it."
The rock group played at the packed University of Leeds refectory on 14 February 1970 and recorded the gig.
The record it spawned, Live at Leeds, is often cited as one of the best live rock albums of all time.
Ed Ferguson, a Who fan who was at the Valentine's Day concert, said: "I remember it vividly. The band threw everything into it."
Mr Ferguson, then an economics student at Leeds Polytechnic, was a big fan of the band and first saw them in 1968.
"Leeds University was then the number one venue for rock music, week after week I saw the top bands and I would be there most Saturdays," he said.
He remembered queuing up on that Saturday for tickets costing a few shillings in those pre-decimal times.
Mr Ferguson said people knew the concert was to be recorded and said "anyone there would remember it to this day".

Phenomenal record.

The question I have is, what was the deal on Magic Bus where it sounds like it’s being played backwards, right before Roger sings “I don’t care how much I pay...”
I have to agree that Roger’s book was better than Pete’s.
When I visited England in 1972 I met a guy who had an complete red (of course) SG body from a Townshend-smashed SG. Hella souvenir!
Nice!
Pete and Entwistle were both using Hiwatt amps. Pete’s amps were supposedly CP103 models built special for him by Hiwatt. I had a 1975 Hiwatt DR103 100 watt that I picked up in pristine condition about 20 years ago, for $900. Loudest amp I’ve owned. The DR103 and a beat up Laney Supergroup Session 50 were my favorite vintage amps (some say there were no early 50 watt Supergroups, don’t pay attention).
“There was a bit in Magic Bus where we couldn’t get it to flow properly, so Pete just edited the tape, cut a bit out, and turned it backwards.’”

They were the pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal in Mayeye never to be humble opinion
“Young Man Blues,” Baby! Anaheim Stadium 1970. One of the best days of my life.

as well.
Pete Punched Abbie??
.
Wow,
Funny as Heck!
I was there as well ... 3rd row on Pete's side ... my 17th Who concert !!!
Still one of the all time best live bands, even with only two of 'em left ...
I'd have to give a nod to The Doors for hard rock, and Iron Butterfly for heavy metal ... although Black Sabbath seems to own the Metal crown, with good reason.
This is the entire performance of Magic Bus, warts and all, without edits.
I wont spoil it - you have to listen to everything to see where they removed blemishes. Frankly, I prefer the warts...as Roger says, give me a numb note and a bead of sweat any day.
Power and volume....enjoy!
