Major League Baseball announced a series of new rules for the 2020 season, headlined by pitchers being subject to a three-batter minimum. That rule will be officially implemented during spring training on March 12.

“Any pitcher - you wont be able to bring in a pitcher for a single match-up (ie, Lefty-Righty) without the pitcher having to pitch to two more batters - though I do think it shouldnt go beyond the end of an inning.”
That’s insane.
It’ll never happen.
Keep monkeying with the game and make it just like football, where 15 seconds of play takes ten minutes to complete.
Leave it alone!
Disqualifying injuries are on the umpire. If in his judgment the pitcher cannot continue, then he comes out.
But tehy’re changing the injured list back to 15 days for pitchers. Is a fake injury worth 15 days?
The one-batter rule only dates from the late 1960s, and it was a speed-up rule.
They should shorten the game to 7 innings. I can no longer sit through 4-hour games...it’s absurd.
No extra innings in the regular season...just have a quick resolution, don’t care what it is.
I wonder ho wlong it will be before MLB band bangable metal objects.
The pitcher does not have to face three batters if the inning ends before his third batter.
Bring back ties! :)
He has to face three baters unless he finishes the inning.
I’d be happy if they did away with the designated hitter rule. I prefer the NL game with a pitcher batting.
Agreed. This is stupid.
They have ties in Japan.
Generally I detest any change to baseball rules.
This reverses nearly as many as it institutes.
And I’m OK with the 3 batter rule.
It’s overdue.
So do I. And it causes more action byu forcing those players to play the field.
Maybe there will be an exception if the pitcher is knocked out cold by a batted ball and has to be carried off the field.
“so then what?”
They have to pitch.
“The pitcher has to come to the plate in the next inning because he hasnt face three.”
No because it’s 3 batters OR a third out. End of an inning cancels the 3 batter minimum so they could have a fresh pitcher start the next inning if they were to pinch hit.
I’d like to see a change in ballpark construction. Ballparks like old Yankee Stadium, the Polo Grounds, Tiger Stadium, and a few others had deep center fields but short foul lines. This created good power alleys, reachable distances for teh power hitters, and a deep place for fly balls to get caught (helping pitchers.)
And mor efoul territory. Multiple foul balls per at-bat don’t do much to move the game, but they take time. I don’t want as much foul territory as Oakland, but more than most of the other parks have.
Games are too long. Why does a batter have to step out and re tighten his batting gloves after every pitch? Even pitches he does not swing at?
