Beats me too..why? Guess they think it can’t happen here.
When I started reading this I assumed it was just another attempt to instill guilt in a European country, in this case Poland. The author talks about armchair patriots seeking to exploit the experiences of his generation. They are threatening to raise future generations in darkness. It is a little late for that. Ignorance is the norm. Historians naturally omit atrocities committed by the faction they support and emphasize atrocities by their opponents even if they are not true.
I changed my mind when I read: No nation has a monopoly on virtue something that many people, including many of my fellow Israeli citizens, still struggle to understand. It is natural for people to divide the world into heroic nations and villian nations. The history of that period is viewed through highly emotional lenses. The heroes were not 100% good and the villains were not 100% evil. The extent of sympathy for the Axis has been minimized. After their defeat no one admitted they had cooperated. Many of the reports about concentration camps come to us from kapos. How reliable are reports from people who cooperated with the Nazis?
His closing advice is; do not ever imagine that your world cannot collapse, as ours did. Our system collapse? Impossible! s/
As I see the US teeter with the school systems overrun by anarchist/socialist/communist ideology , with the rule of law being challenged we need to continue to pray for God’s wisdom , power and courage to confront the militant, godless culture.
