We were lucky to live through the most beautiful time in Los Angeles' history. A decade when we were all equal in public: the struggling actor and the head of a studio, the caterer and the cateree, the nonprofit lawyer and the very-profit lawyer,
It was a moment when liberal Los Angeles' desire to virtue-signal overpowered our desire to success-signal. When people who dreamed their entire lives of owning a Porsche and could now afford said Porsche, bought that Porsche but left it in their garage and bitterly drove a Prius to work, to parties and to restaurants.
Shortly after the first Tesla was sold, my successful friends dumped their Priuses, most likely in a landfill inhabited by several endangered species. A studio gave a Tesla as a gift to a showrunner I know, so her minions would stop feeling equal to her. She could virtue-signal and success-signal, all while driving something that didn't automatically shift highway lanes whenever it was windy.

For 50 miles and then walking to the next electric outlet.
South Park episode 2 season 10, “Smug”
and then walking to the next electric outlet.
With it being a hybrid, no plug and no need to find a live reciprocal.
Heh, Michael Crichton was a great author, and in one of my favorite books he wrote was “State of Fear”, because he so completely and accurately captured the environmental leftists. He portrayed them accurately as people who would resort to lawlessness, tyranny, and murder to further their goals.
In it, he had the bad guys driving...Priuses!
I love that. How can you not love a book where the good guys are being tailed by bad guys in...Priuses???????
The Prius was less fuel efficient than the M3
As they say, “your mileage may vary”.
For typical Chicagoland stop and go it gets close to 60 MPG.
My wife has a lead foot and the average drops fast.
Love my 4Runner. 17 MPG.
Spoken as a true Luddite and a point of true ignorance.
I think Honda is betting on the hybrid right now instead of electric cars.
That book had a memorable ending. “Guess who’s coming to dinner?”
At 37 mph max speed.
“At 37 mph max speed”
When I was a teenager I drove a 1962 Chevy Biscayne, it loved 40mph. At 50/55 on the interstate it purred. But it didn’t come close to 55mpg.
I got 54 mpg freeway driving to sta. Barbara from l.a. using manual transmission 2009 Chevy cobalt XFE. Avg. 60 miles per hour....did a bit of coasting..but not more than 5 minutes total....more like 3 minutes total. U.S. had developed a hybrid Dodge Intrepid back in early 1990’s which was rated about 70 mpg. Done to demonstrate gas savings. Price of gas went down after that.
Briggs and Stratton had developed a hybrid back in 1970s...yup..that Briggs and Stratton. Prius is for “know little” but environmentally concerned motorist....Not bad product...but much more can be done.
Correction...Briggs and Stratton presented their version in 1980...developed in 70’s.....to be a bit more accurate...from what I read there was a hybrid in 1917 or so.
Hilarious!
OK Mister, how about it takes a few minute to gas up and it takes a few hours to recharge?
Good for you.
At 37 mph max speed.
You can believe that if you like.
Love my 4Runner. 17 MPG.
We drove and enjoyed GMC Suburbans also a Ford Expedition until I learned about the DREADED Triton engine spark plugs.
We drove a two-wheel-drive Suburban from DuPage County Il up into Alaska and back via the Pacific Coast highway. The total trip average was just under 21 MPG. IIRC a 2.73 rear end.
Fully loaded with camping gear, wife and I two kids and a dog.
Best vacation ever.
Around town on the crap winter gas, 17 on a good day.
