Grassley knows (and his staff) all the right questions to ask, which you’d expect from the man who invented our current system of Inspectors General. All his idea and doing. He’s a National Treasure.
I wrote to him for help with the corrupt public housing in Philly when he helmed HUD’s oversight in his Cttee assignment, and his crack staff forced the sale of 463 vacant decrepit public scattered site houses in Philly that were not slated for renovation and had no funding in the pipeline to renovate them. They were listed for sale at public auction.
Philly Dems snarled at me “They won’t sell.” Every single one of them did. Property is hot in Philly. Renovators want any property at all to fix up and sell anywhere in the city at any price point. I’m convinced it set off a whole new wave of property value increases and further private market investment and renovation.
Just had to give Grassley that shout out for his exemplary public service in response to my one letter about a public housing nightmare house in my neighborhood that had burned down and been left to rot. I love him to bits for being what everyone hopes a member of the Senate is. He’s a terrier and he will not rest until he ferrets out his rat.
