Miami-Dade commissioners pledged Tuesday to remove “Dixie Highway” from county road signs after the board’s senior African-American declared the longstanding name a tribute to the states that fought to keep Americans enslaved during the Civil War.
“Dixie Highway was named for the Dixie states. ... The Dixie states seceded from the union because they wanted to continue the inhumane institution of slavery,” said Commissioner Dennis Moss, who represents South Dade, where Dixie Highway is one of the busiest commuting routes. “This is what the name ‘Dixie’ stands for, and it is why we are having this discussion today.”

It is Miami-Dade. They can keep the pronunciation and just change the spelling to “Dick See” and have all the Gay Pride parades there.
If Dixie is banned, then the Democrat Party, the party of slavery, jim crow, kkk, welfare vote-slaves, and anti-Americanism, should also be banned.

Curiously, I was born at the “crossroads of the nation” where Dixie Highway (IL rte 1) intersects LINCOLN highway (US 30). That would be in Illinois all you south haters.
Just wait till they rename all 1st Streets because being 1st is harmful to those elsewhere.

He plainly doesn’t know anything about history. The Southern states did not secede over slavery. Slavery simply was not threatened in the US. Had anybody thought it was, Lincoln and the Northern dominated Congress made it perfectly plain that it was not when they passed the Corwin Amendment which would have protected slavery forever. All the Southern states had to do was return and ratify the amendment. They refused.
South Florida is not Southern but you’re talking about 3 counties. The other 64 counties are most definitely Southern. I know being from one of them originally.
