As a tribute to Rush, I am asking his fans to remember their favorite update theme songs. He mostly stopped the use of these during the Bush43 and Obama years due to music royalty issues but here were some of my favorites:
Environmental Whacko Update In a Yugo
I seem to recall:
I Am Woman
She’s Having My Babay
also as update themes
Another oldie was the Bill Clinton update “Charming Billy”.
Can you blow your saxophone Billy Boy, Billy Boy
Can you blow your saxophone Charming Billy
I can blow my saxophone but sometimes I blow it wrong
But I’m a young man and I can’t leave my mother
Can you ride a motor scooter Billy Boy, Billy Boy
Can you ride a motor scooter Charming Billy
I can ride my motor scooter but I... ring tail tooter
But I’m a young man and I can’t leave my mother
I Think it is Johnny Preston.
Very Cool!!! I saw him there something like 25 years ago, he already was LOVED for his association with Rush.
Feminist Update II - “Men” - The Forrester Sisters
Timber Update - “?” (rock instrumental with chainsaws doing the part of electric guitars)

What is the name of Rush’s main theme song?
Bill Clinton singing “All i wanna do is have some fun”. With a fave line about Al Gore being a brain donor
Barney had a housemate in DC that turned out to be running a gay prostitution ring out of their home.
Barney claimed he had no idea that this was going on and claimed he trusted in his housemate. “I guess I was just a sucker,” he told the press.
That’s where Rush got the “My Boy Lollipop” idea then added the slurping noises.
My city by the pretenders.
I believe it is from Chryssie Hinds and the Pretenders. The song was something like "This Was My City". I believe it was selected, in part, because it had a long intro he could talk over. He played the whole song once.
BJ Cinton- When I saw her derriere.
“My City Was Gone”. The Pretenders (1982). B side of single “Back on the Chain Gang”
Yes, I forgot that one. The theme is still a staple of high school and college marching bands. I honestly think Rush's use of the song was what popularized it and transitioned it as a marching band selection meant to symbolize the evil of their on-field opponent.
So many great memories!
I believe it would be awesome to pay tribute to Rush with a replay of the lady singing,”God Bless You, Rush Limbaugh”
Not an update necessarily but incredibly funny is “The Thirty Second Sale.”
In A Yugo
Homeless Update
I was in a store and Clarence Frogman Henry was playing on the PA system.
I was singing along and saying dadaladadaladadala
About 10 Years ago my sister gave me a CD with the Shanklin / Rush parodies. I really miss them: they were great.
For a while, Chrissie Hines threatened a lawsuit over the use of their song. Rush went with ZZ Top’s “I’m bad, I’m nationwide”. Chrissie relented for some reason.
Both are fitting.
