Brian never surfed - he was not physically gifted and had more of a Baby Huey body. His brother Dennis and Mike Love were surfers.
Poor Brian had so many psych issues that were made worse with drugs.

Brian Wilson never surfed in his life. He was afraid of water and only reluctantly agreed to flop around in the water on a surfboard for a comedy sketch for a TV special and couldn’t wait for it to be over.
It was all part of the act.
