The Cobra was intended to be the Iroquois Warrior but somewhere along the line someone decided that Cobra sounded scarier.

AR 70-28 was entitled “ASSIGNING POPULAR NAMES TO MAJOR ITEMS OF EQUIPMENT.” It covered all things; tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, etc. It’s how “Abrams” and “Patriot” came about.

back in BC, one of my GF’s was part-Chinook. Just to show you that the First Nation has clout (aka make whitey look guilty forever), the provinces gave members (based on 4 year agreements) that any FN will have acres of land, not pay any taxes and have free education. If I married that hot girl, I would have at least $3000 monthly in my bank account, no questions asked plus free land.

The Black Hawk helicopter was named after an Indian chief, not a tribe. Black Hawk was the name of two famous chiefs who were unrelated.

The first Black Hawk led the Sac and Fox tribes in an uprising in Illinois and Wisconsin in 1832—the last Indian war fought east of the Mississippi.

From 1865 to 1872, another Black Hawk, a Ute chief, led the Utes, Navajos, Apaches and Paiutes in a war against Mormon settlers in Utah. Both conflicts are known as the Black Hawk War although the earlier conflict is much better known.

"Can’t wait for the Liz Warren model..."

That would be the Fauxahontas holographic deceptor helicoptor projection. Designed to confuse and deceive.

The Liz Warren is just a Toyota Prius that identifies as an attack helicopter.

“Genocide was not the norm and many of the Native Americans simply were assimilated into colonial life .”

... tell that to the California Native Americans.

Roger on the Huey. Just as GP light utility vehicle (General Purpose) became the Jeep. It’s what soldiers do. (As one for 20+ years, I have had the occasion to participate in using terms like REMF, CYA, and so on)

“It was brutal and unspeakable atrocities and torture was the norm.”

I am getting so sick of this ignorant deceptive lie. It is dishonest to use universal stereotypical statements like this for ALL tribes based on the rare incidents of the very few. Like cannibalism... there is only ONE possible find of evidence for this among North American tribes and it was not themselves, it was the Toltecs who came north from Mexico. To include the Northern tribes as also guilty of the acts from Mezoamerican and South American tribes is blind ignorance of real historical fact. This perception is based on the Hollywood western movies, just like shootouts at noon, it only actually happen like twice.

Even the “savage” Iroquois Confederacy government it’s self was used as an example and inspiration when our own government was constructed. The stereotyping and false history out there about North American tribes is just incredible. the North American tribes did nothing any worse than what was done in the old world, and yes, even brutal and unspeakable atrocities and torture was a norm. Even worse... much was done in the name of a divine leader or religion.
