Nope... I was never that far off of the beaten path!
For the most part the general French populace North of the Saint Lawrence river are incredibly conservative, protective of their culture and their language. They can be very unfriendly, especially of one is English and is purchasing real estate in the country areas.
The Socilist communist French hail from the urban environments
and together they make a political cocktail which can result in being very offensive to Anglophones who visit.
I am glad you did not run in to them.
My take is that I get along well with French People.But the politicians ? I do not have anything in common with them at all.They continue to economically divide Canada, holding back an entire nation.
Canadians are generally bitter about that in the Maritimes and in Western Canada.Canada has no equivalent of of US Federal Commerce Claus.That bird may one day come home to roost in a civil war or conflict, now postponed.
