For almost a week, 21-year-old American-born college student Nicholas Schneider has been trying and failing to find a way out of Wuhan, China, the quarantined city at the heart of a fast-spreading coronavirus outbreak.
An eerie calm has descended on the normally bustling streets of the city of 11 million people, where Schneider has been studying geodesy - a branch of applied mathematics - at Wuhan University, about 16km from where experts believe the new coronavirus originated in a market illegally trading in wildlife.
"It's like a ghost town, barely any people and cars. It's a weird feeling. I feel like I'm in an apocalypse somehow," said Schneider in a phone interview with Reuters on Wednesday (Jan 29).

Yes my emphasis was on “should” as that’s where he has been living.
That would live on, even if he died later. But no, he had to complain and bitch.
Maybe he’ll trip and break his glasses. :O
That’s right.
Prepper ping.
I am helping TIK for a few days while he’s not internet available.
Please bear with me as I learn the ropes and if you see any articles that are relevant, please ping me.
Also, if you want to be added/dropped from the ping list, Please private message me so I don’t miss any pings.
“Hes probably the only one left alive.

I think Ive seen a Twilight Zone episode similar to that,”
Or the movie THE QUIET EARTH.
However, he has an air of resignation that is definitely European, and no use for Trump or non-globalism. Hard to figure.

Too thoroughly propagandized. Like many in the UK, the rest of Europe and, gulp, here.
I figure that the SCOTUS ruling that allowed dual citizenship — so much for forsaking all loyalties to another country — is one of the greatest diplomatic disasters waiting to happen.
Many political people even here and even today still don’t get the big division: global versus national. You can’t figure it all out without that simple phrase. You end up looking at the minutiae.
I remember the derecho that hit us in 2012, one day after SCOTUS handed us the sh*t sandwich Obozocare ruling. I actually slept through it, but driving to work was eerie. My shift started at 5:45 am, and I drove through a near-complete darkness all the way to work. My power was out, and nearly all the power throughout my entire route was out. There were tree limbs down along the road and all sorts of debris IN the road.
Yes, those old foot pedal-powered Lasik machines of the late 1950’s were a sight to behold!
Good movie. If I remember correctly, one of the early scenes was Hestom in a theatre watching “Woodstock”, but it’s been a while. :)
Thanks, metmom. You’re doing great!
Thanks.
I don’t want to overwhelm people, especially with the infectious disease ping list, but that corona virus bears watching.
The reaction of the Chinese government and other government agencies, and even Apple, indicate to me that there is way more to this virus than it being reported.
I think they are down playing it with the news coming out of China. I;’m hearing way too much that otherwise indicates it’s more serious than they are letting on.
I hear you. I don’t trust the Chinese government to tell us the truth about this outbreak, unless they have a reason to believe that our knowing might result in an advantage to them.
I love that movie!
I love the smell of plague in the morning. It smells like freedom!
Who is making deliveries of food and other necessities into Wuhan? I suspect there arent many people willing to take the exposure risk. That means things will quickly run out and all hell will break loose.
The one where he broke his prescription eye glasses?
