what to do when the post office won't deliver
02012020 | self

The post office has decided they will no longer bring packages to our home because it's to far from the road. They will only bring items they think will fit in my mailbox (and so far, they think none of them will)

I'm not really in the mood to run 20 miles one way to get a package.

when you google "large mail box" or what ever you get cardboard boxes. when I actually find something that will accept a decent sized package its 3-700 bucks. I would assume if it's not an official mailbox (approved and all) they won't use it.

I'm open to suggestions as to how to address this. The carrier says his hands are tied. he is no longer allowed to drive up my driveway.

Bunch of EEOC carry overs afraid to get out of the frigen truck and walk a few feet.

Our regular carrier parks the truck at the start of our (about 1/4 mile long) street, walks down the south side and back on the north side, delivering. The carriers on his days off stay in the truck and stop at each mailbox.

That is supposed to be hard to get and depending on the district is impossible. Mostly because of entitled individuals like those who have handicap placards on their cars, but can still manage to run into the liquor store at a sprint. You must be disabled and unable to get to your box. There must not be someone able-bodied in the household. Your doctor has to fill out some forms.

No they are required to keep them for 15 days. A notice is given the first time, another is sent out after 5 days and they are returned after 15. They are only sent back right away if you don’t have a mailbox at all, or the address is wrong. Those tracking numbers are watched like crazy and the watchers will come down on the office in a heart beat if they are caught pulling that crap.
If packages are being returned after two days all you have to do is go on the website, hit the help tab and go to contact us. Go to email us and fill out the form. Always request a call back. The office has to answer within one working day and the responses are all recorded in a program that is tracked. Multiple complaints from the same person or about the same person get flagged.

It is a safety thing. Many companies are not allowed to back up anymore. If a carrier hits something backing up they can be fired. Can you imagine what would happen if a child was backed over? Also if your house is more than 1/4 of mile from the road, they will not bring packages up to the house. Believe me this is not the carrier making the decisions.

They aren’t lazy, it is management making these decisions. But glad to know that you know ever government employee and that you know that they are all lazy. Bet you think you are the hardest worker there ever was. And don’t give me the crap that government workers are worse than private sector. Take your rear into just about any business and there are sorry people. One bad apple doesn’t run the whole bushel.

That stupid poem is no more the postal service’s motto than the one on the statue of liberty is federal law. Get over yourself and realize the world is not here to cater to your whiny crap! Every thing someone has suggested, you have come up with some excuse not to do.

You’re welcome to continue using the substandard US postal Service. I however have chosen not to

My house is between 200 and 250 ft from the road. I don’t believe that’s even a tenth of a mile

I don’t use the shipper. So I’m not sure why you would think that I’m the one that’s causing these problems

I think the simplest solution is to get a post office box.

They already hold the packages at the post office.

the solution is a box they can deliver to here. the post office is 3 towns over, in the smallest of the 3 towns.

no reason to go to said town.

the problem is I have not found a mail box that is post master approved that is large enough and not 1000 bucks.

Hes an old timer...

Nope, he looks like a young thirty-something. But you're right- he'll outlast the others.

You're right. 1 mile = 5,280 feet. 1/10th mile = 528 feet.

Old timer for my ref was been at the PO awhile

The lady that serviced my rural Ct road(up ntill 2019,i bailed) would drive up my sloped gravel 300 plus drive and place anything that wouldnt fit in my standard box on the road, in front of the barn door, lots of backing and K turns.
Never a prob.

Maybe my 50 buck Xmas card helped, was a practice the follks and many rural types out that way did since the being of time..
Postman (person) was an asset to be treated well

Fine, do without. Or,

Amazon will deliver it to one of their pickup sites and you can probably arrange for things to be held there longer than two days. You could also arrange to have it dropped at the home of a relative or friend who has a driveway the USPS can turn around in giving both you and whoever is helping you out more opportunity to bitch about the situation.
