Don’t laugh. During the gas shortage in the 1970’s. People were doing all sorts of stupid stuff.. Like driving in their car with gas container in back seat and lighting a cig.. How about this man tried to siphon gas from his boat with a electric vacuum.. How about storing 200 gal gas in your basement!! Needless to say some are not around to tell their side of the story!!

My old man was a stickler for venting the engine compartment. We had an inboard runabout. Lift the engine cover.

“Yeah - of course there is the vent fan. But what if that sets it off. Open the cover.”

My dad trusted me more (at 16) with that boat more than my brother at 26.

I never did lose a propeller on the river. My brother? Three!!
