Parents of Cornell freshman found dead at bottom of a gorge after 'dirty rush' hazing night sue the college for turning blind eye and describe the seven rounds of binge-drinking games he was forced to endure

The parents of a Cornell freshman who was found dead at the bottom of a gorge after a hazing prank are suing the college and the fraternity he was joining the night he died.

Antonio Tsialas died in October last year after a night of brutal drinking and hazing with Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house in Ithaca, New York, at a 'Christmas in October' party.

His body was found in a gorge and he had high levels of alcohol in his system but his family's attorney says his cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma to the body. They do not know how he sustained it.

In a lawsuit filed on Tuesday, his parents accuse the university of turning a blind eye to the school's hazing culture and they name many of the fraternity's members, claiming they did nothing to save their son's life.

"We know who to recruit and those who wont make it during hell week.."

it begs the question.....does your fraternity only go for boys that can drink a lot?....is that the qualification?....wow....

"What is not news is the large number of non fraternity kids that die on college campuses from drugs and alcohol. But those deaths don’t fit the overall story line"

its because the frat boys are supposed to be the cream of the crop from great families probably with money but now we find out the only qualification is can they drink a lot.......

I don't know if that was the gorge but on the campus itself there is a gorge with a little bridge.....

the Ithaca area especially in the fall is spectacular.....with an astounding array of wonderful wineries in neighboring hills.....

It’s more than alcohol. They must have taken him to the gorge and been doing something dangerous. Did he just happen to walk over the the gorge while drunk and fall? It seems like at least manslaughter, although you probably couldn’t prove it. Think the parents have a good lawsuit.

You mean our 150 yr old frat which boasts of fortune 500 billionaires, Nobel winners, hollywood players , former senators etc? Yeah, I think you have to drink a lot to qualify.

Like the deliberate transmission of the AIDS virus on an unsuspecting victim, trying to push burning “weed” on an unsophisticated America—stinks.

Your comparison is shrieking nonsense - nobody unsuspectingly smokes marijuana.

“Unsuspecting” is no synonym for unsophisticated.

Which is why it was shrieking nonsense for you to equate them as you did above.

"Growing up high: Neurobiological consequences of adolescent cannabis use"

Marijuana criminalization has failed to keep that drug away from young people; they have been reporting since well before any state had legalized that they could get marijuana almost as easily as cigarettes or beer, although the latter two are much more widespread among adults. The available evidence indicates that the best way of keeping a drug away from young people is to legalize it for adults - which gives its sellers an economic incentive to confine their sales to adults, namely the risk of losing their legal adult market.

So marijuana and codeine were found in the same vehicle; what's your point?

I suspect that marijuana is frequently located with other, and much-stronger dope. (Justin Bieber is one example—Downey the other).

The stigma associated with the “easiest dope” should be attached to ALL dope.

When multiple substances are illegal (or legal but onerously taxed), it's no surprise to find criminals selling more than one of them.

I’ve been gone too long to have a good grasp of the location. I posted from looking it up and apparently it was wrong. I left Ithaca in 1957; returned on vacations and took pictures around the area to prove to people that Cornell had the most beautiful location and campus than any found in CA.

“it’s no surprise to find criminals selling more than one of them.”

So, when marijuana “venders” also sell fentanyl, opiates, codeine, heroin, and cocaine, the Republic benefits somehow?

(35 pounds of fentanyl, bound for the “Drug-Infested Den” of New Hampshire was seized from Illegals in Lawrence, Massachusetts, last week).

But wait, it gets worse:
“In California, authorities say outlaw dispensaries in Los Angeles County greatly outnumber the licensed storefront retailers — and undercut their prices.

Buyers can get pot products cheaper at illegal outlets that don’t charge or pay taxes, according to Adam Spiker, executive director of the Southern California Coalition, a trade organization that represents cannabis growers, distributors and dispensary owners. He called it an “unfair competitive situation for licensed businesses.”

In Colorado, another legal pot state, news reports indicate police have seen illegal growing operations surge.

Have some coffee - the stupid is strong in you this morning. I neither said nor implied anything about a benefit to the Republic.

Of course - for legalization to most effectively reduce the black market, taxes must not be excessive (as they apparently aren't for the drug alcohol, for which there is a negligible black market). But even with high taxes, every dollar spent on legal product is a dollar not placed in criminal hands.

In Colorado, another legal pot state, news reports indicate police have seen illegal growing operations surge.

Yes, for sale in states where it's illegal - an ongoing fail for marijuana criminalization.

I knew a high school senior who died of alcohol poisoning. Wonder if that might have been the case here and the other frat boys panicked and tossed him into the gorge.
