British Airways cancels flights to China over coronavirus

British Airways canceled all direct flights to and from mainland China, joining a growing cluster of international carriers that have cut their routes as the country confirmed nearly 6,000 cases of coronavirus. The London-based carrier typically runs one direct flight per day from Heathrow Airport to Beijing and another to Shanghai. Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office has discouraged anything but essential travel to China, excluding Hong Kong and Macao, and urged against all travel to Hubei province, where the crisis originated. Indirect routes to China via connecting flights were still available on the British Airways website, and the carrier’s flights to Hong Kong were not affected.

I wonder what "essential travel" is. There's no business that can't be transacted electronically. Maybe medical personnel and scientists going to and from China?

Not to worry. The US will have them drop off passengers here and then transfer to another plane.

The plane landed about the same time President Trump began the USMCA ceremony. Fox showed the plane landing and the white protective suited reception crew on the ground.

Fox said they landed at a non-pubic air strip due to US citizen concerns about them being at regular airport.

I cannot believe landing at a public airport was even considered!
But as usual the gov’t is stupid ( with the exception of Trump).
