The Future of Recycling Is Sanitation Workers Rejecting Your Bin. In Atlanta and other cities, collectors refuse to pick up trash if residents have sorted it wrong.

The only things it makes sense to recycle is aluminum, and possibly glass. Glass is problematic, as you have to sort by type/color, which is why these 'recycling' companies are starting to insist on the separation. Plastics are really no recycle friendly because there are many types of plastic, and mixing types leads to effectively crap plastics. I say toss everything but Aluminum into landfills. Someday, those will be extraordinarily valuable mines.

“Recycling Inspector” is what they “semi-retire” trash haulers to when/if they are UNABLE to continue picking-up the trash.

Inasmuch as the city would otherwise have to retire such “on civil service” employees on a disability pension, I’d guess that paying the “recycling inspectors” for doing something is a better alternative.

I posted my original comment because I found what was disposed of in my container was SOMEWHAT AMUSING.

We have two bins. Burnable ( for the burn barrell) and garbage, which is picked up weekly by a guy with three teeth.
We will soon have goats and chickens so that can will bring one other bin.
God, I love the country.

The solution for home owners is simple.

Since you put garbage in 'single-use' plastic bags which no one opens to check for compliance, just put all your recyclables in with the household trash that goes to the landfill.

We’ve watched the same happen in front of our house. Not all the time, but sometimes.

The only advantage to living in the state of MD is that the trash men here would not do that to their own...
