Thanks for the chart - actual facts (assuming that the chart is accurate, with China we never know for sure) are few and far between with this thing.
Interesting that 39% of patients with symptoms go into ICU. With north of 5,000 officially diagnosed, that means about 2,000 in ICUs. One has to wonder at what point their system became (past tense) overwhelmed...
...which leads to another question: once we get hit hard by this disease (and we will), at what point will OUR system get overwhelmed? No matter how advanced we are, we have only so many trained people (and some of them will also get sick, count on it), and so much in the way of drugs that will have any effectiveness. At a certain point a disaster will make even the US medical system comparable to living in rural China, simply because there won’t be the resources necessary to do what we obviously know how to do.

FYI, forgetting the coronavirus completely, it is a good idea to take Vitamin D supplements, and not just in the winter. Even in the summer we are urged to wear long sleeves and cover ourselves with sunblock if we don’t, out of a fear of developing skin cancer later. So we have lower levels of Vitamin D than previous generations. WRT the coronavirus, I have no idea whether having high levels will help to reduce the likelihood of infection and/or reduce the severity and duration of the disease if you get infected. There simply hasn’t been enough time to even think about such a study...though I hope that one is done at some point.

As an aside, who builds 2 hospitals in 10 days AND quarantines 50 million people for the flu? Something that we simply don’t know about now is scaring the crap out of their government - and I would point to the bio-weapons facility 20 miles from Wuhan as a likely source of the reason why they are so scared. I personally believe that they were weaponizing the coronavirus, and it (or a bat, or several) escaped (or were helped to escape by someone looking to make a few yuan).
Vitamin D levels are almost certainly a factor, but probably not the entire answer.
You should know the answer at least for your local area. Go take a peek in your emergency room in the evening. If the waiting room is full, the answer for how quickly it is overwhelmed is it already is.
As for critical care abilities, most hospital rooms are equipped to also be critical care. Most everyone else will get moved out to acute care facilities, those in acute care will get discharged early. 65,000 to 135,000 can be accommodated without breaking the system. Above that number? You’ll get tens of thousands dumped into impromptu hospice care. (That’s not Coronavirus victims, but the normal U.S. hospital load, seniors with broken bones, non-Coronavirus flu, etc.)

It might circulate, suboptimally, until fall. Meanwhile the infected sniffle or sneeze a few times and might not even realize they’re infected.

I thought that walls didn’t work? That’s what ABCCBSMSNBCNBCMOUSE has been telling us for years. Maybe they should send some of their reporters there to make sure that the people in China are informed about the facts of life.

FYI, there are 2 things that you CAN believe: they have quarantined 50 million people with their armed forces; and they have started construction on 2 hospitals that are to be completed in 10 days. Who does that for a simple flu bug? Something else is going on - no one does these things for fun, or to show that they CAN be done. Their government knows something that we do not, and that something is scaring the ever-living crap out of them.
The flight chartered by the State Department left Wuhan, and will stop to refuel in Anchorage, Alaska. From there, it will head to the March Air Reserve Base near Riverside, California, where it'll arrive early Wednesday.
The flight was originally planned to land at the civilian Ontario International Airport -- about 35 miles from Los Angeles.
It's not immediately clear why the itinerary was changed from the civilian airport to a military base. Curt Hagman, a San Bernardino County commissioner who is on the board of the Ontario airport, said they were informed Tuesday night that the plane will not land there...."
