A girls basketball coach was identified as one of the fatalities in the crash that killed Kobe Bryant and his daughter Sunday, officials said.
Christina Mauser who worked at a private school in Orange County, California was among nine people killed instantly when their helicopter crashed in Calabasas, according to Costa Mesa Mayor Katrina Foley.
My kids and I are devastated, Christinas husband, Matt Mauser, wrote on Facebook.
We lost our beautiful wife and mom today in a helicopter crash. Please respect our privacy. Thank you for all the well wishes they mean so much.
Also killed in the crash along with Bryant, 41, and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, were college baseball coach John Altobelli, his daughter Alyssa Altobelli

All the money you could need, a happy family, years of life ahead of you, the ability to charter a helicopter to take you places.
None of that protects you from something like this.
He and I are the same age, and boy did this really gut-punch me
same here... i’m the same age within a few days of Kobe.. have 3 daughters of my own, etc. not a basketball fan, but this one hit me.
Im a little older and I live here in Marin County and this immediately reminded me of the Bill Graham helicopter crash in 1991
Almost the exact same situation - horrible conditions ; should not of been flying ; did not need to do it ; short trip - dead
I for one will never ever get in a helicopter because I lived on Kauai for a while and I hated seeing all those stupid helicopters that had sightseeing people in them ruining my peace and quiet
Maybe the hit something and fatally wounded the helicopter before it crashed.
Pilots think the “sputtering” was the pilot trying to pull up in desperation when he saw the side of the hill.
Helo had two engines, no way they both went out. Helo on of the best, they doubt mechanical problem.
He was a bit younger than my older son, a bit older than my younger son. We have grandkids 12 and 10. So it did hit home, especially his young daughter.
Most conservatives are genuinely classy decent people. Yet during incidents like this, the nasty underbelly of jealous, bitter so-called conservatives always crawl out of the woodwork. Youre a perfect example of one
Reminds me of the hoopla in the wake of the Patsy Cline crash:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patsy_Cline#Death
Was at a pilot site last night. Charted helo, he didnt own onw anymore. Pilots in general agreement that this was a CFIT, controlled flight into ground. Flight path shows plane circled for about 11 minutes waiting for space to fly in. May have lost directional awareness.
Pilot flew north and made left turn into higher terrain. Fog level was below hilltops. Flying way too fast, 150 mph, for visual conditions. Not on instruments, which is a bit of a mystery.
Ground photo indicates CFIT too. Pilots all very sad. Kobe was long-time helo user, probably because safer and faster than dealing with the traffic. They shouldnt have flown this day obviously.
agree, really poor decision on the part of the helo pilot. he obviously got disoriented, etc. shouldn’t have been in the air in the first place. pilot’s lack of respect for the situation killed 8 other people, including 3 kids.
Yes, you are right. Kobe probably started flying because it’s fast and statistically safer than driving. But statistics don’t always work out. That’s why a few people do win the lottery. This was the bad lottery.
“Reminds me of the hoopla in the wake of the Patsy Cline crash:”
And Stevie Ray Vaughn. I don’t remember the cause of that crash.
Also, no mayday or trouble call. No time, he flew it right into the side of hill. The photo shows that, as the pilots noted.
He said flying made him fresher for the Laker games.
Very sad photo
looks like three families devastated....
Hard to image losing two daughters (Chester) at the same time and a whole family (Altobelli) at once.

I’ve noticed same. Celebrity deaths seems to bring out the bigots and cranks among us.
I read Bryant’s $6 million investment in a sports drink company was recently valued at $200 million. This guy could have been doing anything under the sun yesterday other coaching girls basketball but he chose to do that. To make a judgement on his life based on one incident from 20 years ago is total nonsense.
I read that as well. The helicopter belonged to a rental company.
Thanks. Same damn thing, how about that.
My daughter and I took one of those helicopter rides in Maui. Other family members declined. Never been in one since. That tour company crashed a helicopter the week after our tour.
Did you read the part where it wasn’t discovered until the next morning?.............
