Yes, and I actually agree with that sentiment . Check out what I said in my comment number 25. I just get so annoyed with the way some people on here say it. With such smug superior attitude. I like the way that you voiced your opinion respectfully. I would clash heads with so many fewer people on here if they just toned down the WAY they said things.

I am willing to bet there is a LOT in the Book of Leviticus you do not obey - and not all of it is explicitly abolished in the Book of Hebrews (or elsewhere). You do not get to pick and chose which parts of the law you want to cling to. The Jerusalem Council said so.

I have ZERO tattoos. Not one. I’m 50 and spent 32 years in the military. However, I also know the difference between Judaism and Grace and what Paul preached. I know there were some in the early church trying to throw brothers and sisters under the yoke of the law that didn’t apply - and the Jerusalem council was VERY specific as to what they could NOT do...and Paul was very specific as to what applied to Gentiles and what did not.

“Leviticus 19:27

“Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.”

Hmmmm.

****

Iirc, this had to do with people shaving off parts of hair on head or beard to identify with specific cults.

We are under grace but that does not invalidate the law.

Sorry but awards shows are not the place for politics

Superceded by the instructions in the New Testament. We don’t keep Old Testament/Jewish dietary law as Christians either.

If she enjoys them [the tattoos], what’s the problem?

She's a beautiful girl, but her beauty is diminished quite a bit by that ugly body graffiti. One day this tattoo fad will die, probably in her lifetime. She couldn't just experiment with weird jewelry and dyed hair?

Exactly how is this shocking?

Imagine the horrors of a poor little Leftist confronted with a glimpse of reality once a year.

I would contend there’s a largely unspoken social stigma attached to tats that is damaging to some people, so for them tats do present a problem.

6 Love it! But please stop desecrating your body with tattoos.

8 If she enjoys them, what’s the problem?

11 Ugh with the tattoos. Everyone has a tattoo. They’re ugly. Even on an Airborne Ranger and they’re allowed. Desecration indeed.

14 Leviticus 19:28: Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.

16 Wow, there is actually a verse about this? Got’em. Thank you.

30 "Leviticus 19:28: Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD."

"Leviticus 19:27 - “Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard."

Hmmmm.

36 Excellent reply! Hardly anyone follows the entire Bible... people pick and choose what they feel comfortable to follow. Such b.s.

40 Yes, there are departures from the Old Testament - even during the early days of Christian faith. Coptic Christians were often discreetly tattooed with a cross, just to gain admittance to a church (apparently church security was a thing back then, too).

There were also pilgrimage tattoos sought by visitors to Jerusalem - and in fact, those same tattoos are still available today, in Jerusalem. I would find it difficult to view those as ugly or a defilement.

44 God tells us not to paint our bodies. I believe in Leviticus.

53 Superceded by the instructions in the New Testament. We don’t keep Old Testament/Jewish dietary law as Christians either.

FWIIW, Albert Mohler Jr., president of the (SBC's) Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, wrote a commentary on tatooes sometime over the last 10 years. Sadly, I could not find the link. From my memory, he wrote that the OT scripture in question in Leviticus pertained to "ceremonial law" and not "spiritual law". Therefore the early church fathers did not forbid it.

That’s all nice and good, and even true, but it does not change the fact that it is the CHOICE of these people to PERMANENTLY disfigure their bodies, and thus it is my RIGHT to “discriminate” against their “looks” - which THEY did, not God, not nature.
