There are currently 1,764 confirmed cases worldwide, including 54 fatalities.
Just remember. He likes Bernie.
And in regards to the Ro its a metric that allows comparison. Yes, its an academic figure that is derived after the fact, but in terms of tracking any kind of velocity, we wont know until this breaks out (not onsey-twosey) in a first world country.
I absolutely agree there is no need to panic here. But I did buy a big bottle of Vitamin C. I need that stuff anyway.

These guys just cannot catch a break. I would hate to be the emergency manager for that area. Well, they are probably the second or third one this week.
You can’t calculate R0 without a denominator, and we are weeks to months away from one.
No link with seafood market in first case of China coronavirus, Chinese scientists revealed Researchers into initial cases find first person with symptoms had no contact with market where disease is believed to have originated
The first person known to have been infected by the Wuhan coronavirus had never visited the citys seafood market regarded as the epicentre of the outbreak according to Chinese researchers, who also called for extra precautions against airborne transmission of the disease between humans. The researchers, seven of whom work at Wuhans Jinyintan hospital, designated for patients with the illness, revealed on Friday in The Lancet medical journal that symptoms of the new disease were first reported on December 1 much earlier than the Wuhan governments initial announcement on December 31 of 27 cases of the pneumonia-like infection. https://www.scmp.com/news/china/society/article/3047646/no-link-seafood-market-first-case-china-coronavirus-chinese
Exactly. And they knew that after Sars but did not. This time they are putting a temporary ban on them. So. go virus.
To be fair, they WalMart doesn't allow guns inside...
We stocked up on canned goods yesterday. And salt.
A Chinese health official said the virus is much more contagious than originally thought. This will require us to change surveillance and contact trace back, and increases the need for rapid diagnostics that can be used at point of care and in field.

slow response
from CNN:
Chinas health minister Ma Xiaowei had some very bad news Sunday about the Wuhan coronavirus: He said people can spread it before they have symptoms.
A veteran adviser for a US health agency called the news a “game changer.”
When I heard this, I thought, oh dear, this is worse than we anticipated. It means the infection is much more contagious than we originally thought, said Dr. William Schaffner, a longtime adviser to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Schaffner added that this new piece of information called into question the current US practices for containing the virus so it doesnt spread beyond the three cases that have already appeared in Washington state, California, and Illinois.
Schaffner, an infectious disease expert at Vanderbilt University Medical Center said that if Max is correct, were going to have to re-evaluate our strategy, thats for sure.”

A Chinese doctor says that the #CoronaVirus (#2019nCoV) has clear imaging features on CT scans. The infected lungs have a ground-glass-like shadow . This is consistent with a #Wuhan doctor's description in their complaint letter to the national health commission. pic.twitter.com/ctFQGOgXgX— AS-Source News (@ASBreakingNews) January 26, 2020
Aids is a butt sex problem.
I used to eat lunch practically every work day with one of the first people to die of AIDS.
I also attended classes at my church with another.
No AIDS or STDs here. Never got in a position sorry! to get it.
This ain't like AIDS. If either of them or a thousand people whose lives I crossed back in the day had 2019-nCoV, the outcome would have been far different.
