A ding-dong ditch prank turned deadly after a California man rammed into a car filled with six teen boys, killing three of them, according to authorities.
The boys, who did not know 42-year-old Anurag Chandra, rang his doorbell and ran off, officials said, according to reports.
California Highway Patrol officials said Chandra then intentionally rammed his car into a Prius with the six teens inside as they were leaving the neighborhood. The Prius then struck a tree, Buzzfeed News reported.
Drake Ruiz, Daniel Hawkins and Jacob Ivascu, all 16 years old, died in the crash.
boys killed "Jacob is the eldest of five kids," his father Alex Ivascu told KCAL-TV. "And he was the third mother/father figure. So we're all devastated."
Sergio Campusano, Joshua Hawkins, Daniels younger brother, and Joshua Ivascu, Jacobs younger brother, all survived the crash, according to Buzzfeed News.
Chandra has been charged with three counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.
Fed Ex and UPS drivers do that to my house on a regular basis.
I happen to believe they’d done this to him before just to get a rise out of him. That would help explain why he went off on them to that extreme.
what is it with people on fr being on the rag today...
There may have been prior incidents and this was the last straw. Anyway the guy let rage take over. Always dangerous. However, I seriously doubt this will end up first degree. Second or manslaughter. I do feel bad for the dead and their families.
What is a mother/father figure? Is that a trans reference?
Exactly. Teens should be taught that from an early age. Sorry to say but crazy is everywhere in today’s society.
Gotta be more to this story. I can’t see how you can catch anyone, even in a Prius, after ringing the doorbell out of the blue.
Strange people are to be avoided, not taunted.
Remember the old Life-Time Books, History of the Old West commercial, "John Wesley Hardin once killed a man for snoring too loud?"
I feel certain that is correct, and maybe the facts will bear this out. Even so, the punishment doesn’t fit the “crime.”
Its California. So if the guy says he self-identifies as a “visitor from another country” (etc.) he will walk./sick world (TM)
I never did anything like that even once.
Who the hell ding dong ditches with a car?
In the mid 70s, ya rang it and then ran with your friends.
One time a man was pissed to no end and came stomping half way across the street. We were behind the bushes with our hearts racing. If he had stomped any further, he would have seen 8 kids start to book it in the other direction.
We had some little delinquents do this in the last apartment complex we lived in. And this was the least of the pranks/harassment we endured. What they didn’t know was that we had surveillance cameras. After about 2 times of them ringing and running away, I watched the monitor and opened the door just as a kid was about to ring the doorbell. I said “Can I help you?!” She stammered and ran off. A few minutes later, I could see them peering into the window and pointing at the little camera peeking through the blinds. Never had another problem again. I never once thought of violence. It was irritating, but not anger-inducing.
I suspect that there is more that we aren’t hearing. Granted the original report came from Clickbait, I mean Buzzfeed.
If someone rings your door and leaves perhaps it is a door to door solicitor.
If you have the time to reach the door, realize you’ve been “had”, see the people who did it, and still have time to go back inside, grab keys, and head out to start your car and chase them down, there is probably more to the incident.
And if some peers are killed engaging in a criminal act, the survivors can be charged in their death.
As a matter of fact, I had never even heard the term, “ding-dong ditch”, until a couple of years ago and had to consult Google to find out what it was.
All I can say is that the defense should be happy that I won’t be sitting in the jury box.
Sympathies to all the families who lost youth far too young. But six passengers in a 5 passenger car needs the driver of the Prius charged as well.
“A Prius as a get away vehicle??”
With 6 people aboard, it’d be as fast as a pair of crutches.
The defense? Who do you think is going to be criminally charged and facing life in prison? Ya think it’s the surviving kids?
You are one confused individual.
We also corned houses on mischief night.....
but all they had to do was break out a broom. We spent a week preparing for it. Had to sneak corn out of a field and shuck it. When we had a bucket filled, we were ready.
Even in the 5th and 6th grade, we knew better than to go egging. If ya egg someone’s house, you better not get caught.
