Switzerland has minted a gold coin so small that a magnifying glass is needed to see each side - one of which shows Albert Einstein sticking out his tongue.
State-owned Swissmint said that the 0.12-inches (2.96-millimetre) gold coin is the smallest in the world. It is similar in size to the combined thickness of two pieces of paper.
The coin weighs just 1/500th of an ounce (0.063 grams) and has a nominal value of 1/4 Swiss francs (about 20p). Its weight is comparable to that of two grains of rice.

“The coin weighs just 1/500th of an ounce”
That’s about 3 dollars worth of gold, being sold for over $200. I suppose that’s not how collectors think, though.
Things like this are generally bad to collect. Everyone will be in mint condition and no one is going to throw away the packaging and paperwork. It is also why modern commemorative coins (post 1982) are bad investments.
That is about 1 grain of gold. Back when gold was only around $30 per ounce a company made a bunch of 1 grain gold bars and encased them in a postcard type advertising piece. It was a good marketing idea.

Gimmicky stuff for collectors and AS Seen ON TV Infomercials!.....................
Why?
Don’t sneeze or you’ll never find it!
As for why mint them? It is Swiss gold and their mint will sell a mint of them at a fine profit, but not to me!

Which reminds me.
We need to get rid of pennies, nickels, and dimes.
The silliness of leadership in the modern West is amazing. Next will be a coin of some one “’mooning” the viewer.
Something to sell to Tourists I guess
How many of them could you make from the typical gold filling ???
