Back in the day The Doomsday Clock was a public relations stunt for the The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists (a bulletin is not a scientific journal). It jiggled back and forth according to the Soviet party line.

The Soviet Union is gone, we got past the Cold War without nuclear annihilation, but The Doomsday Clock ticks on. I suppose "atomic scientists" (real ones don't call themselves that) are experts on climate change as well as international relations.
