The family of Kristin Smart, the California college student who vanished 23 years ago after attending a party near her school, was reportedly told by federal agents to be prepared for news and to secure a family spokesperson.
Denise Smart, the woman's mother, told the Stockton Record that she was contacted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was told to "be ready."
"This is really going to be something you don't expect. We want to give you the support you need," she said she was told.
The report said the FBI was not clear on what the development was, she was told that her family might want to "get away for a while," and she should secure a family spokesperson.

Reminds me of The Springfield Three. Three women vanished without a trace from home in the early hours of June 7, 1992 without a trace and have never been heard from since.
45, 43 on Feb. 20th. But she could have been taken and brainwashed since her captivity. It has happened before.
I agree. That’s a very cryptic thing to tell the family.
There is a podcast called “Your own Backyard” that began last year and investigated the Krist Smart case. He claims his evidence points to Paul Flores as the murderer.

Wonder if they have identified the killer/killers via some Ancestry DNA, and this is a method to get the killer/killers to panic and run or to confess.
it’s something along those lines...
She is now a he and married to a famous actress
We had a neighbor who disappeared from his yacht while sailing alone off San Diego. Not a trace or clews. The area is used by pangas carrying illegals. But this was day time. Sad story. Leaves the family clueless.
beat me to it
Damn, I could have confidently made those observations and I'm not even a retired FBI agent. :-)
Yup. The fact is that the BATF head was to testify before Congress to defend his budget. BATF scheduled their botched raid on David Koresh’s Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas right before this testimony.
It is supposed by many that a “dramatic takedown” of Koresh would have been to the bureau’s benefit.
People needlessly died in their attempt at a win. They could have picked up Koresh easily when he made a weekly grocery run into town.
Maybe Schiff hired her to accuse Trump of sexual assault.
The further decline of the FBI. Now theyre operating like a reality show.
Having actually delivered that news (to service members on active duty, regarding family members), I do not understand the FBI drawing this out. They should get all main points of their news delivered in the same day that they tell the family, preferably within the first few minutes. If the family needs a spokesperson or time away, they should bring someone with them to help with those steps after the initial discussion is completed.
The report is so odd that I’m really wondering if it’s true. It’s one thing to prepare the family 24 hours in advance it’s another thing for the relative to say that they expect it to break within a month.
The report said the FBI was not clear on what the development was, she was told that her family might want to "get away for a while," and she should secure a family spokesperson."
I understand a little 'heads up' but, unless this girl is alive, this is just plain tormenting of a hopeful family
I'm having trouble diagramming that sentence.
Why would the family release this (if they did)?
I know I wouldn’t.
She likely ran away with her boyfriend because her family pissed her off. Now she was identified as a homeless lady in LA.
Most of those Amber alerts are just the dad taking his own kids back.
It may be to flush a suspect too. Why did the family go the press?
