FULTON, N.Y. -- Tom Heppell was behind the counter, starting to get an order ready Monday afternoon at Slice 'N' Go Deli in the city of Fulton when suddenly a tractor-trailer slammed into the shop.
There werent any customers inside at the time, but his wife, Sue Heppell, was sitting a few feet away. The Heppells, who have run the deli shop at the corner of Interstate 481 and Division Street for more than three decades, said they had no idea what was happening in that moment.

The loss of this little deli is a tragedy.
They made GREAT Turkey Club sandwiches and had really good deli meat.
Well, there’s the problem. The truck driver was from San Antonio, TX. Snow flurries are a wonderment there.
I figured the same.
People who dont grow up with snow have no idea how to drive in it.
Course, even many people who grow up with it dont either.
I have learned over the years to stay off the road for the first couple snowfalls of the winter. Its like people go braindead over the summer and forget everything they ever knew about winter driving.
This was a true miracle.
This is a tragedy...I lived going there when I lived in Fulton.
“When emergency crews opened up the back of the truck after the crash, there were rows of Bud Light Seltzer cans. One official at the scene said the cans were empty.”
Maybe the cause?
Nice before and after pictures.
Hard to believe that anyone inside survived. The ground floor is gone.
Thanks for the ping. We will miss that place. Funny thing is a few days before this happened I was thinking of getting a sub. Should have done it. :-(
