While the ship was going down, society’s elite males, dressed in tuxedos, and with utmost chivalry and aplomb, helped load women and children into life boats, and without any sense of panic, sang “Nearer My God, to Thee” while they faced their doom.

What you describe is not masculinity. It is the pinnacle of SIMPing. But Mark Steyn is a tradcon that believes that men giving their lives for some code of chivalry is a noble and good thing. Personally, I’ll take a seat in the lifeboat.

What is masculinity and its purpose if not for physically protecting the family?

Actually it is. Men then were not weak and without question would sacrifice themselves to protect the women and Children.

Chivalry at its utmost. Masculinity at its highest form.

Seriously!

The people pining for those days are the ones that are too chickens*it to tell women to adhere to the norms of that time.

Like men are supposed to be dutiful and sacrificial for women in 2020, whom have all of the same rights and privileges, but none of the expectations and responsibilities?

Back when American culture was intact and you might not know your neighbor down the road personally but you could be reasonably sure that he and his family had more or less the same values as you and the same loyalty to the American way of life as you, this whole idea of sacrificing yourself for some random stranger might have had some nobility and honor to it. But now, a ship like the Titanic is just as likely to be half full of people who hate you and your way of life, and despise everything you hold dear. In such a circumstance, your responsibility would be to your family first and foremost, which would include keeping yourself alive to care for them.

Chucking your own life away without proper thought, especially when it might be in the service of people who despise you and your culture at the expense of those who rely on you, is not only not noble, it is foolish and counterproductive.

There is no way I would sacrifice my life, simply as a conditioned reflex, for some purple-haired, gender fluid, communist b!tch just so she can continue to crap all over everything good in the world, let alone for someone from a hostile foreign culture. And not all commie b!itches dye their hair purple either. The men on the Titanic had the luxury of knowing that those who survived due to their sacrifice would most likely continue their civilization, not work to destroy it.

Chivalry is a warrior code. It’s a pity you don’t understand it.
