My boss told me to shut up about Trump so I plan to wear RED all next week during Impeachment Trial.

I cannot go into details because I don't want to harm the innocent parties involved, but here is the basic true story:

My workplace is exceedingly liberal. A few conservatives, but we're outnumbered. I don't hide my views, but I also don't get in fights with others. Honestly.

Seven or eight months ago, maybe longer, I was told my comments offended people and could get me fired. I asked what the specific comments were, and no one could tell me. The response was basically "We all have heard you say things..."

A few days into the new year, I was again read the riot act, told that if I offend anyone else I will lose my job. One of the bosses (there were two) told me not to even talk about the weather or sports. Only work related words should be coming out of my mouth.

I told them I have been very careful about using any language that could be construed as offensive. I asked again for what exactly was my offense. No one could give me a quote.

So, I am doing my best to watch out. I am a good employee and have been that a long time.

What I think I'll do this week is wear RED (not a hat of course LOL) during my work hours. The red will be in solidarity with MAGA. I will do my best to remain quiet.

WRT the job...you’re already gone, you just don’t know it yet.

They are doing the paperwork now and you will be fired when it is the most difficult for you.

[[The Bible does say we are to obey those in authority,]]

True- but we can ask something along the lines of “So just to be clear- if anyone says anything to me that i find offensive, and is not work related, I can report them, right? If they bring up the weather or sports, I’m to come to you and report them? Is that what I’m to understand?”

(Not that you will report anyone- but put the question to the boss- see if he’s truly going about this in an non partisan matter-

Good luck in all these things. If you are willing to risk it I’d suggest you thank your boss for his advice and ask him/her to put it in writing. You should keep a log book of cautions and incidents conducted by others that did not lead to cautions. If your boss has a boss that is how you take things up the ladder or to a lawyer.

But liberals NEVER, EVER have to watch what they say. Case in point...

The HR Department at one tech company I worked for invited the whole company to join them to have free milk & cookies...on Harvey Milk Day. I was so offended I was spitting nails, but I just kept my mouth shut and head down.

I am very happily retired from all that crap.

And if the boss isn’t ‘non-partisan’?

Keep your peace, be humble, don’t give offense, and prepare for a job change. That’s the right thing to do.

.....”The workplace is FOR WORK. It used to be a golden rule- you never discussed religion or politics at work”.....

It should be applied today as well.

What’s difficult is working with “snowflakes” in general. They’re offended by anything which doesn’t coddle to their delicate natures!

I would start recording these interactions and responding to them in writing. For example if they call you in to berate you about saying something "offensive" and won't specify the offense shoot an email to your boss or to HR saying "Thank you for the meeting of January 18, 2020. As you know when we met you stated that I was using language or conversational topics that were considered "offensive". I truly do not wish to offend so I asked you what the offensive speech was. You would not give me an example. As such I am writing to you to again ask if I may know what the offensive speech is so I can avoid it in the future."

HR will NEVER put something in writing if they don't have a case for firing. Stating a political view is NOT a fire able offense if everyone else is free to state a political view.

They are going to fire you. It's only a matter of time. The leftists think you are irredeemable. They are going to look at everything you do and use it as justification to fire you. It doesn't make a difference if you ever say another word.

What could be fun is to ENTHUSIASTICALLY and over the top AGREE with those who make leftist supporting statement. For example if someone says "Donald Trump is a racist" you could say "He SURE is. He HATES BLACK people that's why he's put in policies that have made RECORD numbers of black people go out and get jobs. He WANTS to see black people work themselves like dogs. He's a darn racist."

And that I’d IF you can get a lawyer to take the case. Even though we are overrun with them, they often don’t want to touch these cases.

No grounds for a lawsuit unless he owns the place.

I am just an anonymous typer giving anonymous advice for free, which is worth exactly what it costs. I am not the guy who is going to run his mouth and get fired. Respond to post #1 if you want to talk to him.

If it’s becoming apparent that you are about to be fired, I would get ahead of the ball, and confront the boss, and would also state something along the lines of

“It’s pretty evident that you don’t like the fact that, as a republican, I work here - so if you’re going to fire me because you hate the fact that I’m a republican, I’d like to know now so i can start looking for another job where the boss isn’t so intolerant”

… you’re already gone, you just don’t know it yet.

Yep. I totally agree. I saw lots of things like this in my career and experienced a few.

I really missed the early days of my career in the early 70s when this shit didn’t exist. We all just got to work, performed, and had fun. We weren’t looking over our shoulders nonstop.

You are being targeted.
Don’t assume anything but u might want to start looking for a new job.
I was targeted back in 2002 for speaking out against H1b.
I was lucky to get out before the hammer fell

Sorry my point of the last post is that you want to have evidence for a wrongful termination suit EVEN if you never plan to file one. You need to show that you did everything in your power to comply with reasonable requests from your employer....and have a good attitude about it.

They have probably made the decision to get rid of you. Next they will set you up with a bad performance review, which will be totally subjective. After that you will get a call to come into your bosses office and you will terminated based on performance. It will all be a set up.

Don’t cause a scene, just start looking for another job. The job market is on fire right now, you can find a place where you can be comfortable.

Standing up for yourself is NOT being ‘non humble’- Take a look at how the apostles stood their grounds and confronted corruption and bias when they encountered it- How Jesus did the same-

Being humble does NOT mean allowing people to walk all over you and abuse you-

Should you get fired, publicize the event, and drive them into bankruptcy!
