Should have been done a long time ago. Glad he’s being recognized finally.

Who gives a rat's hindquarters what his race is! There were clearly many, many Sailors and Marines who served heroically on that day and Petty Officer Miller was one of them.
This old Army guy thinks it's outstanding that one of those brave men has been so honored.

I thought the Navy only named carriers after presidents.
Not that I have a problem with it. At least it isn’t hussein, or some other affirmative action BS.

I wish they would go back to naming capital ships after STATES. We after all, are paying for them.
USS Arizona, West Virginia, and Oklahoma should go to the front of the line.

Hear! Hear!
Capitol ships should be named after brave Sailors, Marines and key battles.

Excellent!
Although I think very shortly we will be hearing this from the media described as just another form of racism...

I’m of the opinion that naming a destroyer after him would be more appropriate. The current naming convention does call for CVs to be named for presidents. But I guess it’s better than naming it after William J Clinton.

I'm confused. I started reading this article to get an idea of his heroism. His actions appear to have been to assist wounded and then to fire at Japanese aircraft with a machine gun.
Did no one else on this ship do that? Did no one else on any of the other ships do that?
Call me stupid, but I would have thought every man able on every ship would have done that.
Is what he did extraordinary? I would have thought it would have been the norm for hundreds of men on those ships.
Maybe I just don't get it and maybe there is more to the story. If Chester Nimitz Decorated him, he must have done something above and beyond the call of duty, and perhaps the article isn't conveying it well enough for me to see it.
Yes, apparently i'm that guy.
