Deborah Dugan, the first woman to lead the Recording Academy, took the reins in August
The body that hands out the Grammys said it put its chief executive on leave due to a subordinates unspecified allegation of misconduct, 10 days before its flagship awards show.
Deborah Dugan, the first woman to lead the Recording Academy, took the reins in August, following public remarks by her predecessor that were widely interpreted as sexist.
Citing a formal allegation of misconduct by a senior female member of the Recording Academy team, the organization said late Thursday that its board was placing Ms. Dugan on administrative leave, effective immediately.
The board tasked two independent investigators with examining the allegations, the Academy said. The chairman of the Academys board, Harvey Mason Jr., will serve as interim chief executive.
A representative of the Recording Academy said that no further information about the misconduct allegation was currently available. Ms. Dugan couldnt immediately be reached for comment.
The episode is the latest black eye for the organization, whose prior CEO, Neil Portnow, departed after an uproar over comments about female artists.
