Jennie Zawada, who mowed her lawn and drove her own car until age 104, may just be the oldest person living in Indiana.

Zawada, originally from Milwaukee, turned 108 last week, according to a report from The Indy Channel.

She moved to Carmel, Indiana in 2017.

Her secret to a long life?

“I think everything is good for you if you don’t over do it,” she told the station.

Her niece, Nancy Dwyer, added that her aunt always took good care of her body. “She is very healthy with low blood pressure and takes no medicines,” Dwyer told the station. “She has never smoked, rarely drank alcohol, and always tried to eat healthy foods. She loved to cook and still likes to read recipes.”

Indiana once was home to the oldest living person on the planet. Edna Parker, of Shelbyville, died at age 115, 220 days, on Nov. 28, 2008.

117-year-old Kane Tanaka, of Japan, born Jan. 2 1903, is the oldest living person in the world whose age has been validated.

“I’ll never make it to that age and don’t really want to.”

You might change your mind when you are 103.

“and takes no medicines
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Key to a long life.”
************************************************************
Dad passed away at 96. Other than Tylenol, never took medicine up to age 92. Meanwhile, my older sister/husband needed a Publix shopping bag to cart out all their medicines/drugs (from the drug store). When Dad was 92, my sister managed to coax Dad to her doctor...yep, you guessed right...next thing I knew her doctor prescribed all manner of drugs, and then Dad also needed a Publix grocery bag to carry his drugs. In a few days Dad became so out of sorts that he peed on the floor, because he was unable to find the bathroom. Next, my sister went to her lawyer, and unknown to me obtained a durable Power of Attorney over my Dad. In a few weeks she placed Dad in a nursing home, where he remained until he died.
In just a few weeks Dad had gone from no prescription medicines to (”having to have”) nearly a dozen. But, what do I know? She said her doctor found that Dad had all kinds of problems, and that he needed all the medications.
I have never taken drugs, and having witnessed what happened to my father, I am determined to remain drug free.
Will never forget the story Doctor James Dobson (used to have a daily radio program) told, about a small female child. The mother had taken the child to a doctor and the doctor prescribed various medications. The child then began taking the drugs, but her problems began to get worse. Eventually the doctor said he could do no more, and sent the mother to another doctor. The new doctor began prescribing a different set of medicines, but the little girl kept getting worse. All the mother was doing was taking the child from doctor to doctor to doctor, with each new doctor prescribing what medications they deemed required. With the child near death, and with all the various doctors having given up, the mother took the child to a new doctor. The new doctor, looked over her records and in bewilderment said, “Lets just take her off all medications”. The girl began to improve, and eventually was completely well.
The thing of it is, getting people away from all their drugs is like trying to persuade someone to change their religious beliefs. It is indeed a faith based connection. People that are on various prescriptions will come after you and hurt you if you dare do anything to interrupt their drug supply.
I am so sorry to hear this about your sister and your father. Unfortunately, this sort of thing happens with great frequency. A person becomes one big mess of chemicals with all those prescriptions in his or her body. Something’s bound to go awry.
Cousin Linda did quite well!
These stories remind me of a several years ago, when I was doing an internet search of things from my youth. Something in my life had popped up and made me go down memory lane. I was thinking about my 3rd grade teacher, and I thought she was “old” when she taught me, but you know how mistaken we kids are about things like that. I ended up finding her obituary after a bit of research, and lo and behold, she was “old” when she taught me. Turns out she was 65 back then, and I think that age qualifies as old to a 9 year old. She died when she was 101, just a month or two shy of her 102nd birthday! God bless you, Miss Stennett!
One of my oldest memories was seeing former President Harry S. Truman mowing his own lawn in Independence, MO. He died when I was 10.
