Croyle convicted; WTYM in jeopardy (PA)
PBRTV ^ | 1-14-20 | Eric

Following up on a story PBRTV has been following for nearly two years. WTYM (1380 Kittanning) owner, David John Croyle was found guilty of statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor and other related charges last week. The jury deliberated for a total of 4 1/2 hours over two days before announcing the guilty verdict. Croyle could face at least a four-year sentence on one of the charges.

At the time of the assault, Croyle was editor and publisher of the Kittanning Paper, he was a town council vice president (and remains on council despite the case), a pastor at Family-Life Church. He is also the licensee of WTYM and its FM translator at 103.7 and a low-power TV station. He was sentenced to jail pending his sentencing in late March.

His status of convicted felon means that he will no longer be permitted to hold a broadcast license of any kind. Reports in to PBRTV say the AM signal is dark but as of this past weekend, the carrier current was running on 103.7. The station may only dark for 30 days without a silence authority from the FCC or fines are charged. Will Kittanning lose their radio station? It seems likely, unless someone swoops up the license in the next few weeks.

Believe it or not there are TWO radio stations here in Western PA whose licenses are in jeopardy because the owners have been charged with felonies.

As opposed to the country of Philadelphia which is populated by Yangzers.

That's the second Yin and Yang joke I've used today. I wonder if that portends something.

If I had read the whole headline, I would've been able to figure out it's in Pennsylvania.

But, if I start reading whole headlines it might lead to reading whole articles. I'm not willing to take that chance.

I’d pay $5 for the license.

Actually it is Armstrong County about 45 miles NE of Pittsburgh. More Yinzery than the Yinzers.

I’d pay $5 for the license.

The going rate for AM licenses here seems to be from $17K to $55K.
