Wow! What an annoying web site.
One of my all-time favorites celebrating LIBERTY is the Augustus Saint-Gaudens' Double Eagle (below, as it appeared from 1908 to 1933), something that modern generations simply do not fathom or comprehend. The coins were so hopeful and confident about the future of the United States. LIBERTY was such a common these on so many U.S. coins of that era.
If the Dems had their way, they'd replace "In God We Trust" on all of our coins with a hammer and sickle.
Yeah. What you said there.

They are beautiful coins, both in their imagery and optimism, but also purely in the artwork and detail. Much nicer than the “cheaper” looking Maple Leafs, Kruggerands and Eagles today. I find the most attractive modern gold coin to be the US Buffalo. Of course, I’m only speaking as a low-info amateur on numismatics.
I assume these coins were pure gold, not 22K?

That seems to be a truism of modern life. As tech gets better and better, so many things get worse and worse.
Case-in-point #1: Animation. Nothing beats the heyday of Disney animation with hand-drawn and painted cels. Beautiful art, wonderful storylines, funny humor, great music. The computer animation today is pure crap.
#2 “We are in the era of customer service.” Heaven help you if you want real service at a store or online merchant. All you get is useless computer “agents” that do helpful things like “OK, let me get you your balance.”

But if you look at the coinage from the first couple of decades of the 20th century, you have the Indian/buffalo nickel, the “Mercury” dime, the Standing Liberty quarter, the Walking Liberty half, the “Peace” dollar, the gold incuse Indian-head $2.50 and $5 quarter and half eagles, an Indian $10 eagle, and the Saint Gaudens double eagle.
There was a time when American coins were little works of art.

Their day will return. Gold will return as a medium. Europe will return as well. WW II knocked the guts out of the old place and sank their empires—They will be back but—More eastern than western. Next force will be the Anglosphere of English speaking nations and the Hispanosphere of Spanish Speaking Nations. Things will change but remain the same.
