The PSA test tests for a chemical the prostate creates that coats sperm. Once that sperm reaches the egg, the PSA chemical weakens the cell wall of the egg to allow the sperm to enter in. This chemical as the same effect in the prostate. If cancer exists, the PSA chemical weakens cell walls in the prostate, easing the spread of cancer.
