That version is a little fast for my taste. She is an excellent singer, though.
Astrud Gilberto’s version or nothing.
The 1964 Stan Getz recording featuring the vocal debut of Astrud Gilberto became an international hit. I love Astrud's daughter, also a famous singer, Bebel Gilberto. Bebel's English/Portugese version is lovely, too.
Yes, it’s impossible to replace Stan Getz - what a fabulous sound he had, and it fit the song so well.
Love the song, but the vocals are too sibilant and almost nasal sounding. Might be partially due to the too fast tempo.
Lovely version. Do you just enjoy jazz or are you into Brasilian Jazz?
I think you would enjoy this album on YouTube. Leny Andrade and Cristovao Bastos. Check it out some time.
I liked Herb Alpert and the TJ Brass instrumental of it.

Agreed. `Girl From Ipanema’ belongs to Astrud Gilberto forever.
Accept no substitutes.
Hear, hear.
[Verse 1: Astrud Gilberto]
Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes, each one she passes goes “ah!”
When she walks she’s like a samba that
Swings so cool and sways so gently
That when she passes, each one she passes goes “ah!”
[Chorus: Astrud Gilberto]
Oh, but he watches her so sadly
How can he tell her he loves her?
Yes, he would give his heart gladly
But each day when she walks to the sea
She looks straight ahead not at him
[Verse 2: Astrud Gilberto]
Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes he smiles
But she doesn’t see
[Instrumental]
[Chorus: Astrud Gilberto]
Oh, but he sees her so sadly
How can he tell her he loves her?
Yes, he would give his heart gladly
But each day when she walks to the sea
She looks straight ahead not at him
[Verse 2: Astrud Gilberto]
Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes he smiles
But she doesn’t see
[Outro]
She just doesn’t see
No, she doesn’t see
But she doesn’t see
She doesn’t see
No, she doesn’t

Always preferred the Homer & Jethro version - The Gal from Possum Holler.
I like the “Girl From Ipanema” version by the B-52s. It’s actually titled “Girl From Ipanema (Goes To Greenland). Peppy!
