Interesting. And Scarlett Johansson was nominated *twice* for Jojo Rabbit and Marriage Story.

I honestly do not know how Academy politics works...especially now that Harvey Weinstein is out of the picture ahem.

My guess is there may be a stigma against superstar singers(?)

Madonna won a Golden Globe award for ‘Evita’ back in the day and I felt like she had potential for more even non-musical roles if she were given good scripts. She also wasn’t too shabby a director for the movie W.E. about Wallis Simpson and King Edward. Weinstein produced it and said if anyone else were the director it would win accolades. So I guess even his power had limits after all.

Back to Jennifer Lopez though....maybe the white woke Hollywood crowd is not has racially progressive as they claim?

Is Ricky Gervais going to be there?

All hype. I saw the movie. It wasn’t very good. At all. I’m no prude but it just was kind of a turn off. Made me feel like I needed to go home and shower. I love JLo too but trust me, her performance was not even close to worthy of an award. I kept thinking WHAT are they talking about.

I predicted then no way would Jlo be Oscar nominated for Hustlers. Now Reneé Zellweger was fantastic in Judy! She’s worthy!

I saw 1917 this afternoon. That’s acting! Absolutely incredibly done film with acting by George McCay (I was not familiar with him) that still has not left my brain since I watched The credits roll by. Must see.

I agree with you on The Irishman. I would not have watched except my friend wanted to so I went along. I despise De Niro and I can no longer see him as his character. I think De Niro finally has cooked his goose with his insane unhinged foul mouthed ranting. He was snubbed for a Golden Globe too when the others got a nod. It delights me no end. Haha.

As for the anti-aging stuff. Creepy. It really distracted me because their eyeballs still looked so old. It just didn’t work for me at all.

We saw Uncut Gems and thought that Sandler played the best role of his career thus far. I am not a Sandler movie fan by any means, but Uncut Gems keeps you on the edge of your seat for two hours and the end abruptly shocking. It was worth seeing.

I thought the Irishman was a good movie. DeNiro wasn’t so good but Joe Pesci and Al Pachino did a really good job. Scarlette was really good in the Marriage movie. I’ve always thought she was a good actress and not just pretty.

The making of “Dolemite” movie got a lot of nominations in other critical awards this season (not just for Eddie Murphy), it was snubbed by “the Academy”.

Perhaps because it was a “little picture” that had a limited national screening (sometimes only a day when it screened outside of California). Perhaps because it was heavily tied to a Netflix streaming release. But the Academy snubbed it.

Clint Eastwood’s Richard Jewell also largely got snubbed (only an acting nom for Kathy Bates which may be like Dennis Hopper’s nomination for Hoosiers, late in life nomination for a career of work - the Academy certainly wasn’t going to nominate it for a role like the one he played in Blue Velvet that same year but it was his big return to acting a quite a performance).

Robert DeNiro may have been “snubbed” but the reboot of Taxi Driver (called The Joker) got a lot of noms.

It’s Ridiculous and marty et al should have left good enough alone with the great movies that were made.

I Love gangster movies and loved Goodfellas and Casino and even liked Mean Streets for what it was. (maybe because i grew up knowing guys like that)

But I had No desire to see old men in a gangster movie.

And faking their appearance doesn’t make them young.

I boycott Netfoux, so I downloaded Dolemite from a pirate site. It was enjoyable. Murphy is good in it.

Years ago, actresses over 40 had trouble finding work in Hollywood. These days, actresses age 50 and older are still making big money in Hollywood. J.Lo is 50, and she’s playing the part of a stripper.

On the one hand, Hollywood seems interested in actors of all ages today. OTOH, is it really? The same group of actors/actresses keep getting all the parts, to the point where they’re playing parts intended for younger people. DeNiro has starred in so many movies. The same with Murphy. The actors being snubbed are the ones who can’t even catch a break in Hollywood.

Laugh if you want, but Jennifer Lopez is a better actress than she is anything else, and better than most who get nominated.

Joke post?

When I saw the movie, I came away thinking it was a great performance by Eddie Murphy.

award shows only swell their egos, and distract the public from what is really important about this world.

“DeNiro was pretty lousy in the Irishman and a pretty week script.”

Agreed. But I think that the fact that “Kill the Irishman” was pulled out of theaters and rushed onto Netflix is the determining factor here. Ordinarily the Oscar-nominations would love to showcase another anti-Trump rant by DeNiro. But in this case the industry has another fish to fry — Netflix.
