Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow and manager AJ Hinch have each been suspended without pay for the 2020 season by Major League Baseball, which on Monday released the findings from its investigation into Houstons sign-stealing allegations.
Houston also forfeits its first- and second-round picks in the 2020 and 2021 MLB Drafts as part of the penalties. In addition, the Astros were fined $5 million, which is the highest allowable fine under the Major League Constitution.

Former coach and now Red Sox Manager Alex Cora is fingered in the report as playing a key role in setting up the scam. Red Sox are currently under a similar investigation and it seems likely he'll get suspended as well.
Astros additionally lose their top 2 picks in the 2020 and 2021 drafts and are finded $5 mil.
whoa.
“Commissioner of MLB brings the hammer down on the Astros over sign stealing. “
Complete bs. Sign stealing has been in the game as long as there have been signs. Ok, so the Astros took it too far, got it. The punishment is way too much.
Where is Kenasaw when you need him...
Where do the Yankees go to get their stolen games back?
Not a bad trade for a WS win.
More from the article:
The conduct described herein has caused fans, players, executives at other MLB clubs, and members of the media to raise questions about the integrity of games in which the Astros participated. And while it is impossible to determine whether the conduct actually impacted the results on the field, the perception of some that it did causes significant harm to the game.
As part of the suspension, Luhnow and Hinch are prohibited from performing any services for or business on behalf of the Astros or any other club. They will not be allowed in any Major League, Minor League or Spring Training facilities including stadiums, and they may not travel with or on behalf of the Astros.
Should either Luhnow or Hinch be found to engage in any future material violations of Major League rules in the future, the offender will be placed on the permanently ineligible list.
I’m shocked. I’ve heard of sign stealing happening for many years. What triggered this severe penalty? Did they have a sophisticated system using cameras and technology?
oops. someone’s WS title just earned an eternal asterisk.
Has a World Series title ever been vacated? Is that even in the baseball bylaws, I wonder.
Lying, cheating bastards.
"You will win a world series, then three year later you will be fined $5 million and lose four draft picks. And your GM and Manager will be suspended for a year. Or, you can take your chances and maybe not win at all. You want to do it?"
Every owner would take the ring and the punishment.
Belichick managing baseball now?
Yup. Former Stros pitcher Mike Fiers was (if you’ll pardon the expression) the whistleblower who told them this:
Fiers said the Astros were using a camera positioned in the outfield to detect the signs, which were then relayed to hitters by somebody banging on a trash can in an area between the dugout and the clubhouse so they knew which pitches were coming.
The Nationals had to come up with a complicated sign rotation to counter this allegation to win the WS.
My team plays in the SAME division as these assholes. These idiots need to get their heads smashed in by the same trash cans they used to cheat their way to games.
Well, that was no fault of the Reds though. They might not have earned it but they weren’t involved in the crime and cover up, AFAIK
But they lost the World Series.
suspended for ONE year? How about 5 years and/or definitely?? Weak. The fix is in.
