Canadians have demanded answers to more probing questions, not least among them about the US connection. The crash came hours after Iran fired missiles at Iraqi military bases housing US troops in retaliation for a US drone strike at Baghdad airport that killed Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani.
"What Iran has admitted to is very serious. Shooting down a civilian aircraft is horrific. Iran must take full responsibility," Trudeau said during a Saturday news conference in Ottawa. "Canada will not rest until we get the accountability, justice and closure that the families deserve."
That must include discussion of bringing home Canadian victims' remains, financially compensating their families and nailing down how Iranian systems at-large allowed such a tragic accident to unfold, said Trudeau, noting he'd spoken directly with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani since Iran admitted downing the jet.
Trudeau met face-to-face Friday with families of the victims. He has pledged to keep them informed. But many victims' relatives and friends who spoke to CNN said Trudeau should do more to press both Iran and the United States on the crash investigation.
Trudeau also must navigate his nation's posture in Iraq. Canada leads NATO's noncombat mission in the Middle Eastern hotspot, where several hundred Canadian soldiers are training Iraqi counterparts. The effort could be key to keeping ISIS at bay, especially since the US-led military coalition in the region temporarily stopped its anti-ISIS missions amid the hostility from Iran and the militias it supports.

I keep looking for some word on the citizenship breakdown of the 176 victims.
How many Canadians? Any US?
I’ll know he’s serious when he dons the fatigues.
Perhaps a stern lecture. Oww oww oww! I know. Megan’s first assignment from canaDuh. She’s turned hairy into a wuss so she should be able to get them in line in the ME.
A terrible tragedy. Iran should make financial restitution; and they’ve got plenty of cash, thanks to Obama.
No US. I’ve seen 57 and 63 as the number of Canadians (some are probably dual Iran citizens, I think 11 from Ukraine, the rest pretty much Iranians.
Has he blamed Trump yet?
The Canadians are Iranians with Canadian citizenship.
Watch out, he’s about to go full Veruca Salt.
He has no moral standing, he has repeatedly gone public in blackface.
Whats next? A sternly worded letter?
We are past that now. No Starbucks coffee for a week and a firm slap on the hand. Possible loss of cell phone use for a day.
Double secret probation is over. Trump may call their Moms to handle this matter.
In other words - NOT A DAMN THING!
He is handling this a bit better than many other tasks, but some tasks define themselves and anyone can do them. Even this male feminist.
The media are evidently trying to lead public opinion to involve the U.S. in the blame, but I haven’t actually seen any of that in Canadian public opinion, it is generally 100% outrage against the Iranian regime.
There were a large number of well educated Iranians who have been in Canada most if not all of the 40 years since the Khomeini revolution. Another large segment of the victims would be Iranian students who had enrolled in Canadian universities. There again, many of them were probably of the same mind-set but their families had chosen to stay in Iran.
It is a terrible and a stupid waste of human life, and the regime should now fall because of this. There is no excuse for these barbarians to rule a nation that has the potential and the overall human capital of Iran. They have done nothing but spread trouble and misery around the region. If that is some witness to their religion, then one would have to conclude it is a false theology.
All they have to do is be nice to everyone and they'll be showered with love.
A strongly worded statement is being sent FedEx Overnight.
Thanks.
Wikipedia has a tally.
Go ahead big boy. Go tell Iran you want justice or else. Don’t let that big mouth over load your hummingbird ass.
Justin the boneless
I expect that Trudeau will stop the licensing of Red-Green TV show to be shown on Iranian TV as his ‘tough move.’
Justin will be sending his aircraft carrier fleet and a squadron of strategic bombers to deal with Iran. -Canada has already called up the Scouts Canada for service.
