Since he has much more than an inkling, I'll stick with his view.

Thank goodness Jupiter has a bad aim.

The orbital position of Jupiter (and Saturn) are on the opposite side of the solar system currently.

The gravitational effects of the planets are certainly variable over time and could be both shield or sniper. We can only hope and pray.

That’s called ‘appeal to authority’ and is an excuse not to think critically for one’s self.

Our simulations show that Jupiter is just as likely to send comets at Earth as deflect them awayReally? You expect anyone that has ever lined up any kinda sights to actually believe that? There's only ONE trajectory to the target. How many trajectories are NOT on the target?
Sounds more like they are grifting to get some Pols kids on their board of trustees at an exorbitant salary of course.

We need more asteroid control laws.
Maybe a Red Spot law to disarm Jupiter before it does it again.

I blame the Commies in Jupiter’s Giant Red Spot.
To: Vaquero
Vaquero, I’m curious as to why you think Saturn is not also a contributor. Is it because of the distance. Although next in order from Earth, it is still a lot farther out there than Jupiter. (These distances are stunning, really. But, minuscule in the scheme of the universe.)

To: SunkenCiv
I think that he, Glazier, is correct. The concept that Jupiter acts as a shield is only partially true. Jupiters mass does cause objects to be deflected but there are four possibilities:
1. Object is deflected away from the inner solar system (shield).
2. Object is deflected toward the inner solar system (sniper).
3. Object falls into Jupiters gravity well and becomes part of Jupiter or the Jovian system (capture, a subset of shield).
4. Object passes far from Jupiter and is relatively unaffected by Jupiters mass.
