Its a grueling, intense work environment. If you are young you can endure......but if you have a young family....it would be tough.

nurse practioners FIRST have to have a BS in Nursing, requiring lots of work experience, and SECONDLY then must get accepted into grad school while working and THIRDLY then must get a sponsor in a hospital/clinic/drs office in order to get more hands on experience with another professional....
AND, there aren't that many positions for NPs around. I have a bunch of nurses in the family, and the couple that looked into doing it, decided not to because it was alot more schooling for a position that few hospitals/medical offices even have. It's great if you get it, easily make $60-80M working part-time, but just not widespread.
