Teacher here. Students are completely different now than even four years ago. We save the ones we can, but many fall through the cracks. They just don't care.I am often reminded of images of opium dens that I saw in my high school world history class. It's criminal what these devices are doing. I understand personal responsibility, but at the end of the day, these are children. Their families have failed them, and in a just world, the companies creating these addictive devices should have some culpability. Freepmail incoming.

They just dont care
I coach HS varsity lacrosse. The kids I coach now compared to 5 years ago are like a different species.
75% of them dont care if they win or lose, even the stars. They are going through the motions.
It used to be 50-75% of our teams were made up of boys that would run through a brick wall to win, but didnt have much talent. Them, combined with the true stars, made for formidable teams.
Ive been coaching 20 years and it only changed in the last 5ish. Its a little disheartening.

Notice the elites send their kids to expensive private schools where electronics are severely limited.
